AC RYAN - Play on HD Owners Thread

Guys:

I am planning to add wifi to my mini. Will any USB wifi dongle work with
the mini or should I contact Mr Ranga for this?.

Also, yesterday I was trying to put my mini in the wired network. I was able
to set everything right and after turning the NAS ON on the mini, I was able
to see the 1 TB HD connected to the mini from my laptop.

I then tried to transfer some files over the network to 1 TB HD from the
laptop. The transfer started but stopped half way through. I tried this
several times but everytime it stopped in-between. The file was hardly
about 1.2 GB in size. Now I dont know if I will have to suspect my mini
or the router or the 1 TB iomega select HD. I am going to anyway try
today a different router and USB HD.

Any mini owner tried this and faced any issues?.

BTW the firwmare I am using on the mini is r4107.
 
4 days and no reply from anyone. Looks like no one has tried to copy files over
the network to the USB connected to the mini.

Anyways, I did my own search and found that this problem being reported by many

I am about to buy the USB dongle from AqTronics. Looks like the wifi could be used
now only for streaming purposes from the PC/NAS to the mini.

Though few people have been able to copy files via wifi to the USB connected to
the mini, it depends on certain settings at the router also. My router does not
seem to have those settings anyway.

Any PlayOn (HD or mini) owner using the wireless and any inputs?.
 
i do not own a mini. I have POHD. I tried to transfer files over wireless network. I thought it was too slow so never tried again. I use a portable HDD to do that.

Have you tried to stream files via wireless and play?.
Was there any stutter, freeze etc?. How much did the wifi cost?.

Yes I have tried to stream wirelesly both ways (playing on my laptop/ desktop the files on HDD of POHD as well as playing through POHD the files on laptop and desktop). Till recently there were no problems at all. I have netgear wireless router for network.
For the last few days, files on my laptop show a stutter while playing on POHD. However those on my desktop play flawlessly. Technically speaking this should be a problem with some settings on my lappy. However some people have reported that files 1080p do not stream all that well on network.
Besides I am on the latest beta firmware. The last firmware never gave me any issues as far as network was concerned.
 
That sure does look like a good price. especially with the wireless USB.

You will not have warranty though.
 
Ac Ryan PLayONHD mini Network Problem

hi all
i would really appreciate help on the following issue

my setup consists of the following

I have an AC ryan Playon hd mini
The Playon is connected to my TV for video and to my two channel amp for audio
Data is stored on a 500GB My Passport WD drive and connected via usb
Furthermore the player is connected ( hardwired) through RJ45 to my LAn router ( Netgear )
My router is inturn connected to my Internet Modem and a Sony vaio latop which is on lan

I have setup up Manual IP addresses on the Play On accordingly

now the problem is as follows
Though i can access the internet through my playON HD ( i.e Internet Feeds - CNN and BBC news channels etc) i cannot seem to acces/stream files over the LAn network
Basically I cannot view any files on my Sony vaio which is on Lan

In the browser menu of the player when i goto "network"
i can select my Workgroup.(which is the default name in the laptop as well - i,e workgroup is named "workgroup" )
i can also see my Sony Vaio : named "Khuzema" under the workgroup
However when i click enter i cannot see any folders under "Khuzema"

i have set my only drive on the laptop to sharing and have also activated guest login
However im am still unable to acces files on it through my media player


in the same way i cannot see my Playon hd in network from my sony in "network Neighbourhood

I am using Vista Home premium OS

this is very disaapointing

Please help

I read that it is a OS related issue and you need to turn on something in vista to see your network share.

I will google and get back to you when I find the answer. I know people have been able to stream with Vista so do not get disappointed.

i would be grateful if you could direct me
from what ive read when using vista you need to make sure that your workgroup is called " workgroup" i.e the default name.

i have already done that
i have also actiavted guest login which helps sometimes

pls do find the link
 
There are some registrysettings that you will need to tweak. Have you searched on the ac ryan forums how to section? There is a thread on this for widows 7. I think same would apply to you

What you have done is applicable to all OS I guess.

I think it boils down to turning filesharing on, in the OS.

Let us know once you try this out.
 
hello all

i have found what to do
windows 7 tutorial need not be followed

heres what you do
1st follow this

ensure the workgroup is called workgroup
Put the folder you wish to share on sharing!
(if logging in as admin you can actaully have a password and then enter that password in the PLAYON for access which is just a one time process)
enable the NAs option in the network settings of the POHD (this option shows only after firmware update of April-May 2010)


2nd ( and most importantly)
just update your firmware!

the new firmware not only allows streaming from vista based PCs directly it also allows access to the USB drive of the PLAYONHD remotely from another PC which is in lan.
Initially for this we had to use telnet , samba etc and it was a rigmaroll

now with all the aditions done in the new firmware its just plug play share and enjoy!

i love these guys! their firmware additions are brilliant and regular.The stuff they add in their new firmwares actually help the average user rather than stupid language pack additions that other media player keep adding

keep it up PlayON

now to tackle torrent downloading!
