Airtel DTH going to remove ESPN HD & STAR CRICKET HD effective 23rd December !!

I believe that this time it is ESPN/Star Sports who is to blame. From what I read in today's paper, the HD channel charges have been increased from Rs. 42 to Rs. 120. DTH providers are neither able to absorb this steep hike, nor pass it on to subscribers. TataSky, Videocon and Reliance BIG TV will continue to transmit these HD channels - for how long, one cannot speculate.

Irony is that Dish TV and Sun TV didn't even have these channels earlier and now they seem to pretend as if they had ESS HD on their platform !!
Such a great liars these DTH companies are !!

Because they don't have any HD bandwidth space for additional HD channels and also to get more money out of subscriber's pocket they have decided to replace the HD channels of ESPN HD & STAR CRICKET HD with Zee Studio HD & Sony Six HD.

This may the thought process of Airtel. Since, the SD versions of ESPN & Star Cricket are already available, they are not going to loose any subscribers.

What they have done is they cleared two HD slots for Zee Studio HD & Sony Six HD. That's a very clever..

In the end, those who have subscribed to HD channels are the stupid ones....

But then about 2 weeks they were showing New 2 HD with all current running.
How they would have manged the capacity ?

And as per as Money is concerned they would have made Super HD Plan with 17 channels in it. I am sure there are many people to go for it.

You're right. Airtel has no bandwidth issues at all. They have 1 Transponder space completely free, which can accommodate 8 more HD channels.
(As I got to know and read on DTH forums)

We may not know the exact reason, but it seems the one year contract got expired between Airtel and ESPN-STAR. (Airtel has added ESS HD channels on 24th Dec last year).
All I can guess is...Now ESPN seemed to ask for more money from Airtel due to the popularity of the channels and Airtel didn't renew it without even caring for its customers !! At the end, it's customer like me and you, who are the loosers !!

So, its the other way round and the fault lies in the hands of ESPNSTAR.
A hike of fees from Rs. 40/- to Rs. 141.80/- thats a whopping jump in prices.....

I have send a feedback to ESPN-Star portal, offcourse nothing is gonna change so easily but we should not loose hope.

Need to know why the Star Cricket HD Subscription increased close to 300%?
I am using AirTel HD Recorder only for the reason that I will get very good picture clarity due to Quasi Error Free transmission for my 51inch 8series Samsung TV.
(AirTel is the only service provider for me to give BER lower than E-09 due to many reasons like Bigger Dish, MPEG4, DVB-S2, Modulation is 8PSK)

Due to above reason it is very difficult for me to change the DTH service provider.
Hence I humbly request you to introduce some better scheme for Six month & direct one year subscriptions so that it will be beneficial to your beloved end customers like me.

yes..both the channels are added back now and will cost you Rs 50 per channel.
