AV Rack Design

Is this needed? does it add any quality, not sure so asking. also are you doing DIY or any carpenter?
An AV rack is not just a piece of furniture .... It MUST perform the additional task of Isolating each electronic component from vibrations.

The Metal spikes that you see are not optional extras, they are ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL to the design (assuming that mind has been applied to create a rack that will isolate vibrations.

* Metal Spikes

* Special Platforms (Select wood like Bamboo, Multiple sandwich layers of wood and elastomers)

* Completely Suspended Shelves

* Sand Filled Hollow Posts

These are just Some of the measures used to create a True AV Rack. ... Else its just furniture.

As a first move, try putting a Bamboo Chopping board, under any piece of your Hi Fi it may be under ... a TT, DAC, Preamp , or what ever.
Hear a difference ? If yes, take the pursuit forward.... After All Hi Fi is our hobby, and its a pursuit to get the best sound possible :)

I did put an IKEA bamboo chopping board under my TT. Degaraded the sound significantly. After a week it is back to chopping onions.

Hi, I got the rack custom made from Soundfoundations in Mumbai. They were really awesome with the quality. I wanted the rack to flat pack as I move frequently. And I wanted it very sturdy as I wanted to rest a plasma tv (44kg) over it.
Attached are the schematics (first photo). Second photo is of a single shelf in walnut wood. Third and fourth photo are of my rack in action. Fifth and sixth photo are the original design I got inspired from. Last two photos as rack similar to mine but they are not detachable.
Alll the best. Cheers

Saurabh
