I am on the lookout for a turntable and have shortlisted the Pro ject debut carbon DC USB. Even though available in India I am thinking of getting one from USA via a relative coming down from USA.

I had earlier shortlisted the Pro ject Debut Carbon but changed my choice to the DC USB model as it would mean a built in pre-amp and a DC motor which should resolve the differential cycle issue (50hz vs 60hz).

If anyone here is using the same model then would appreciate a feedback on the same. Also, some re-assurance from people who have imported TTs from USA that i will not face any speed issues.

Bought an Audio Technica AT LP 120 from the US at Amazon, and hand delivered to Blore by my friend. Need to choose 220v via a switch. No problem with the hertz, infact no hurts at all :D. No speed issues. And it was 50% cheaper.
Cheers!

Got the same delivered at home. Set-up is done and it looks beautiful.
However, the adapter supplied is not working.
Will have to procure a 15volt adapter from the local shop and start it.

Will post a few pics soon.

Dear Canchi,

Even i thought of getting the Audio Technica. But i wanted to spoil myself by splurging a bit.

Got a 15v adapter from the local store. Now the turntable works.
However i still can't test it as my record collection lies in the attic of a friend.
I only tested the rpm speed using an android app called RPM calculator.
Speed shows around 33.4-5.

Will have to wait for some more time to play Deep Purple.

Dear All,

I have been using my new TT - The Project Debut Carbon DC USB for the past 2 weeks. The experience is great. All those looking to bring this from abroad but hesitant to do so because of the voltage or Hz issues can do so blindly. The adapter provided is for 100 to 240 volts and the DC motor takes care of any differential cycle issues. My original adapter was not working and i started using one from the open market.
No issues at all.

Here are a couple of my favorite artists i am listening to right now.

The adapter supplied by Pro ject is 100 to 240 volts and hence no need for step down transformer.
As posted earlier, now i use a local adapter which is for India specific voltage. No issues at all.

Dear All,

The TT is playing fine but wondering what options i have in case i go in for a change in the cartridge.
Currently using the original setup which is OM10.

Do suggest which cartridge i can opt for and how do i get it installed?

U have to specify a budget otherwise it's pointless making any suggestions.

Pro-Ject's pair well with the Ortofon's, i would recommend the 2M Red which is a decent step up from the OM10 and not super expensive, but will give you a definitive improvement in sound. This is a crucial step in seeing (hearing) sound improvements and the sonic signatures of different cartridges. Also, it looks much nicer than the OM10.
