Did this happen? I just saw a passing comment that both sound the same. Did any critical group listening take place?

with what equipment and in what room
I bought which had cloth like layer in middle. Pasted it with pure tar from inside.
Yes I played initial 4-5 tracks to test it. It was new speakers before few hrs on it. It was personal opinion no group listening.
Its in my bedroom with Pass F5 t and Pass B1 with different sources.

I'm asking because I found a vendor who supplies a composite sheet comprising of the following layers:
1. Fine sand
2. SBS modified bitumen
3. Non woven polyester
4. SBS modified bitumen
5. Silicone release film
My point is, whether I should go in for the above sheet or should I go in for the pure bitumen sheet?

Usually I would go by feel. Give the sheet a hard rap with your knuckles and you should hear a dead sound. I can only assume the sand is being used a filler for the bitumen and the polyester is being used as a transition layer for the 2 sheets of bitumen to adhere to.
I feel that both the pure bitumen sheet as well at the composite sheet would sound dead (without reverberations) However, the composite would affect the volume of the box sheet in view of its thickness, IMHO.

That's ~13% volume taken up if my back of the envelope calcs are good. Let me see if I can model that vs the original. What's the port dimensions? BTW if you really want to go anal, you can damp the port outside walls too. Some claim it reduces resonances even further.
If 5mm is 13%, then 50mm would be 130%. Something wrong with the calculations I think!!
Length is 100 mm and diameter is 45 mm.
Actually I'm seriously thinking about 'Constrained Layer Damping'BTW if you really want to go anal, you can damp the port outside walls too. Some claim it reduces resonances even further.
@Capt : you found a cabinetwala? Go semi anal and make front and rear baffles double thickness. You know what to do if you wanna go full. CLD would call for full. Hope you get appropriate damping layer already, or have something in mind.

Yes but this guy is proving to be elusive as well.
The only saving grace is, he seems to feel guilty and calls back later, apologise and promise to come the next day which of course has not been happening. Of course; having gone through all the build threads, I have a fair idea of what to do. Especially the one for building the speakers of Omishra and Sachu888 is very informative.
I was thinking of using veneer ply which will also be one of the CLD layers. Not decided fully though.
If CLD concept doesn't materialise, I'll probably go in for this: Vinyl Laminate - Premium S2

Oh, you haven't built the cabinets yet! Just adjust for the volume taken up by the damping by increasing the depth. Not that it is going to make that much of a difference anyways.

A thick front panel I can understand but, I'm not sure what benefit doubling the back panel will have. The largest surfaces are the side panels. Brace them side to side with a minimum of 4 wood dowels and you should be good there.
If you have adequate bracing, I doubt that CLD is going to provide much benefit.
Along with mass loading & damping the inner walls with the damping layer you have found + bracing + acoustic damping with fiberglass or open cell foam or whatever, you should be good and this would prove to be cheaper too.

Sorry I somehow missed this. Captain, it would be 5mm on all the inner walls excluding the front, right? I think it would be close to 11% down considering the bracing scheme that is suggested and the volume of the port. But this is all moot now.
