Full Range Standmount using Boston HQ48414P driver

So just to give everyone a crude idea of how the Bolton drivers add life to music (mostly mids and highs), I decided to shoot a mobile phone recorded video in which my latest acquired Sansui AU-X701 is powering the Bolton 8" full rangers in a 35 liters sealed box in parallel with French made Elipson 2145 AM speakers. Pardon the poor quality of the video. The intention is just to demonstrate the effect of the Bolton drivers. Obviously there is no merit it judging the audio quality from a phone recorded video but it does give you some sense. Of course in person the sonic impact is at another level all together.

Viewers note that till around the first one minute of play, only the Elipson are playing. Post that I add the Boltons. Later the Boltons are switched off again and the Elipson alone plays.

Let me know your views. The video can be accessed at : https://youtu.be/3Ex9s_ZsP1k

Try viewing it in 480p or above.

Hi, Can you please do a recording for the same song wherein you switch off the Elipson and switch on the Boltons?

Hello there ... I will try to do it. How soon, can't say but will definitely do it. That is a good idea by the way. I should have integrated that configuration in the first video itself.

Accord if you feel this is not educational and has hijacked the thread, there will be no more posts from my end. All yours.

Here are two clips of the BOSTONs. They are modded and in a ATL cab. Amp is Akai M8 R2R SE EL84 monoblocks overhauled and rebuilt to perform as stand alone amps. There are no tone controls. FM vktarun has played a major role in these projects.

Apologies for the low quality videos. The first is with an android phone, second is entry level p/s camera.

Hey Analogadikt, this looks good, will I be able to convert my Akai 1710 RTR as similar as this?

I personally do not believe in uploading videos for judging the Audio quality but for sure such videos entertains us.
Uploading video of our favorite track from Sadma played on the same setup [Boston full range +Akai M8+Lenco L75]

Enjoy!

Sorry for some background noise, still learning to make good videos.

Thanks for sharing the videos guys. Although quality of videos is questionable but I can make out that there is hardly any shout. Maybe I need to try these with low powered amps.

Since I've been traveling a lot I don't have an update of my own yet. But I will post a video of what I am hearing in my speakers and seek your comments.

Kartick and accord, I will coordinate with you guys soon for a get together.

Sorry dear, but i didnot mean so. I just got confused on both similar sounding names - Boston & Balton.

Hi, Nice videos.
Can you please share the dimensions of your diy speakers. I am also working on similar concept.

I was thinking of two 4 ohm drivers in series to try and get a little bass out of them. But like it was pointed out above the mids should not become overpowering. How are the mids in your speakers?

I shot the video of those 8" speakers so as to sell them and a fellow FM bought it. I connected it to an old Akai amp. The box was pretty big for the fullrange speakers but it sounded pretty good.

Nothing harsh. Sweet treble, nice mid and decent bass. Non fatiguing for my and my bro's ears.

Great. Can you tell me the box dimensions so that I can have something to start with?

Did you use 4 or 8 ohm drivers?

Box dimension: 2 feet tall, 1 foot deep and 12" wide (1" mdf, no bracing. 2 metres of glass wool iirc. I remember the glass wool roll had a sticker saying 'Made in Saudi Arabia').

I guess it was 8 ohms (The speaker packet was white with boston graphics on it unlike the brown ones and the speaker basket were very well made with smooth edges and the paper cone was smoother and lighter than the brown packeted boston speakers. Sound was better too).

Something like this..(images from internet, not mine)
