I assume it has all pitfalls of android?

Like

1) Not being to read from external HDD because of lack of driver support
2) Not recognizing NTFS or any other file systems except FAT to interface with windows
3) Having a restriction of 4GB on max file size (FAT32) and hence cannot play reasonably good HD content

With all these, can it be used as a resonably good media player?

Or, is there special firmware to overcome all these?

External HDD and NTFS support seems to be coming soon using customized drivers available at:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=709135

However, while SGS can play 720p Videos without any issue, the TV output I have used can only support PAL and NTSC. So it can play HD Video by downscaling to SD only at the moment. Also audio is converted to Stereo from Multichannel and there is no support for SPDIF.

So, it CAN NOT be used to view content in ORIGINAL HD at the moment.

itz not a media player replacement .. but a phone that can act like a media player.
yes i missed 720p ..most cases 720 does a very good job .

it can have memory upto 50Gig or so .
i use 2GB/4GB HD movies from lappy ..seems good enough in 40inch.
phone may land on my hand in few days .
