Hi,
to watch world cup I got Airtel HD dth yesterday. It shows that I have ESPN HD and I tried subscribing it twice once through CC and once through sms. It still doesn't work. The other HD channel NGC HD works perfectly. Now I want to know if this ESPN HD atall exists in airtel that can be broadcasted. Is it also the case that this channel shows only live games and rest of the time doesn't show anything. Inputs much appreciated.
Thanks.

Hi
mine s a similar story too..i had the HD channel added through the CC .. I was told that it will be activated in 45 min and to keep the stb on..but no progress till now and the channel 223 shows that it needs to be subscribed.

Yes, i saw the world cup opening ceremony yesterday. If the channel is activated you will see a screen with a message like this: The next match is scheduled for 19th February.....If it says that you have to subscribe, then the channel has still not been activated...

Hi,
it is heartening to hear that it actually works but not sure why Airtel guys are not activating it. These CC guys are very much system dependent they have no clue otherwise. I was told two days ago by them that airtel DTH hd service is not even available in my locality. The conclusion is this ESPN HD channel doesn't broadcast anything unless there is a live event and when it gets activated I will only see the schedule for the next match.
Thanks.

Me too called them today, but price they quoted me for one month of ESPN HD is Rs.165+/-.i cant understand...why they are charging such a astronomical figure......

Airtel is such a rip off these days, even though SUN HD has pathetic customer care they are the best HD providers in the country, apart from the 8 HD channels they have also added ESPN & STAR CRICKET in HD...

ESPN & STAR CRICKET were added free of cost..

yes guys.. really i thought of moving to either SUN or Tata Sky +HD setup... I want to get rid of this airtel HD setup box.. any one interested pls ..reply i will give my mobile no. i am in bangalore .....

Hi,
I finally got this ESPN HD activated and all I see is a logo and schedule. Hopefully I won't be witnessing India's world cup misery in HD what we were used to see in SD.

from where did you get this information?

ok. got it 'HD World Cup 2011 Addon Plan Renewal' - Rs.3250 unbelievable

Are you guys kidding? It is Rs 12,000/- and that is no typo. The Rs 3250 was a mistake, check the price now. You are lucky if you bought it at that price!

Tata Sky is charging Rs 50 / month for the HD pack (incl ESPN / Star Cricket), Dish TV is charging Rs 150 for the duration of the WC and the French Open as a bonus. Airtel does not have Star Cricket HD and will not actually be telecasting any India games. Sun TV is charging Rs 12,000 for all existing customers. Go figure!

I take back what I said
For ESPN & STAR CRICKET HD we have to pay 3250/-

Did you actually bought this for 3250/- Can you confirm that only for these 2 channels subscription cost is 3250/- and no other stuff is included like stb cost or annual subscription charges?

It is Rs 12000 now and I would be surprised if they get a single customer in the whole country at that price!

I too inquired at SunDirect HD CC and they told me that the subscription charge for ESPN HD and Star Cricket HD upto April is Rs.13,000/-, I asked him 4 times that too in Hindi and English.

did u tell them it was for one box not for 13000 :p ? watch it in regular SD do not get ripped off by premium charges... later you can buy a bluray or dvd or download for much lesser price .

perhaps that is point, they tried with 3250 but didnt work as someone ordered still so now they are not taking any chances

I think they dont have access to the feeds at all. May be they are raising funds to buy the bandwidth from the satellite.... Better make it quick and increase the price to a few lakh rupees....
Ha ha.. For 13,500 I could travel to Bangladesh, stay in a decent hotel, have fun and watch the match in the stadium..... D*** heads are Sun INDirect fellas

Don't know where the info that Airtel is not showing India matches in HD is coming from. Let me clarify since i have used the service. Airtel is charging 150+tax(total 165/-) for a 50 day period for the Star Cricket HD channel(their messages said ESPN HD, but the channel actually on air is Star Cricket HD). The only telecasts on this channel are the matches: no breaks/ads, no pre-show or post show analysis, and nothing when there is no match on. I watched the India-Bangladesh match in HD on Saturday, as well as the 2 matches yesterday.

I called the Airtel Customer Care and they told me they only have ESPN HD and not Star Cricket HD. they said they have ESPN and Nat Geo as the only 2 HD channels.

Two other forum members in another thread have confirmed that they saw Star Cricket HD on Airtel. It is a sorry state of affairs if Airtel CC does not know their own channels!
