HD DTH comparison

Audiolab 6000A Integrated Amplifier
Hi,
I have a Tata Sky SD STB. I'm planning to buy a plasma TV and HT now and also upgrade to HD STB. Which one you suggest among Tata Sky HD/Airtel HD.?

Who has the best SD picture quality on HD STB? I had opted for reliance and am not happy with SD pictures on the reliance HD STB. As 80% of the channels are SD, would prefer a DTH provider, who carries the best SD pictures.
 
hiiii guys anyone bought videocon hd d2h yet ?
I am also thinking of getting a hd dth & tempted by the no of hd channels offered by videocon so please comment on hd & sd picture quality of videocon & their service

i have bought videocon d2h last week.hd channels are a treat to watch and sd channels are also ok.
watched the liverpool vs manchester united match and i must say it was awsome,with all the fine details ...

Just got my free tatasky pvr installed today. Compared SD content between airtel and tatasky , airtel is clear winner. :)

Airtel supports DD 5.1 through optical out. Also it does upscale normal SD channels to a better resolution but not sure whether its 1080i/p or lower. I can see the difference from my earlier normal SD STB and the new HD-DVR STB.

Hi, does Airtel support 5.1 audio over HDMI or only over optical out?

Hi....

I have just upgraded to Airtel HD from Tatasky and Airtel is clear winner no doubts....but need to ask airtel users here....do they get 5.1 sound indicated in their AVR i have tried through optical / coax but none of HD channel it indicates 5.1 sound nor output sounds like....is there any tweak.....

An important criteria should be quality of upscaling of SD channels. How these set top boxes cope with it. In other threads there are complaints of quality of SD channels even when HD STBs are used.

Personally I am using an airtel SD STB and an openbox s10 HD STB. The latter is an FTA HD receiver hence cannot receive pay channels. However the upscaling of SD channels is very good in this receiver. Many upscaled SD channels have near HD quality which will be mistaken as HD channels unless told. ( which basically depends on the quality of the original SD content). Another reason may be I am watching primarily C band channels not KU band channels, where each channel have higher band width / symbol rate.

So how is the quality of upscaled channels on these DTH HD boxes ?
