Re: HiMedia HD600B or WD TV LIVE in India Pune
for some reason I am unable to edit my post...anyways I will continue here.....
Review of Himedia 600A
Just check out how small and sleek it is......just about 1.5 inch thick and about 14cm in length hardly takes any space
The bit of scratches you see on the front are on the plastic cover in front to protect the real thing from taking any scratches so I did not remove the plastic of it
Better shots can be found on the internet of it aswell
The remote comes with this nice quality rubber on its back to prevent the back body from getting scratched I found this very nice.......
1st thing u need do is just update the firmware as the one that I got had some 1.02 firmware which had all kinds of bugs and is antique release and even the picture quality was not good....and better use the safe mode option when updating the firmware. You can check your manuals on how to do it.
I updated the firmware to HD600_1.0.4.12 ( this is a beta release ) you should update to HD600_1.0.3.4....
After updating all these quality issues and stuff like that go away...
Alright now the player performance I played mostly MKV ....AVI...flv .FLAC....MP3 files on it without any problem at all through a wired Lan Network with great picture quality and sound
The player is capable of Handling/ Format Support : ( source Futeko )
Video H.264/AVC, VC1,MPEG1/2/4, DivX/Xvid, RMVB, mkv, ts, m2ts, mts, tp, wmv, vob, dat, avi, mpg, mp4, mov, rm, rmvb, divx, xvid, flv.
Audio MP3, WMA, WAV, OGG, AAC, LPCM, FLAC, AC3, DTS, DTS-HD MA, Dolby Digital, Dolby TrueHD
Image JPG/JPEG, BMP, PNG, GIF
Subtitle sub, smi, ssa, srt
If someone got DTS HD MA receiver they can add how it went....
I think the max HDD support would be not more than 2TB...
For ppl wondering why their Lan is not working need to 1st go and enable it in the network setting as by default both WIFI and Wired are turned off...Settings also need to be done incase of wired one just choose the automatic obtain DNS option and you should be good........
Now the problem I had with this player which don't matter to me and are just way too minute and might just be bugs as I am on a Beta Firmware......and you guys should be on a stable one...
The Firmware the player came did not let me watch YOUTUBE on it so its really important like I said before start of this review that you need to Update the firmware and you will get two YouTube Icons then. The one in the maroon is new one and will let you watch YouTube videos.
A USB mouse is required ( wireless one would be better option ) when using Browser and even on YouTube...the remote can work as a keyboard but will require lot of shifting....
Personally I think its fair to assume not expect too much from the browser as its on a Media Player...so for basic purpose its fine and no there wont be any flash support in it.....
Problem I faced here while watching YouTube is if I tried to move forward or jump few minutes or tried to play back the same video my player restarted on its own....
Same kind of problem was with the browser aswell after couple of searches it hanged and restarted I am guessing both these issues should be solved soon as more updates come.....
I couldn't configure the library for Movies.....Music...nd all I tried it out but as soon as I would open it there was nothing in there maybe I am doing something wrong .....
Also I am trying to Figure out how to do a search for a particular movie or a song rather than browsing the entire lot ( something like you have in win simple search option )
All in all a very excellent player and at a very good price as its coming with the Realtek 1185 same one that the Xtreamer Prodigy and A.C.Ryan PlayOn!HD2.
Alright folks that it for now have fun with media players thx to kittu for continuous support here and pointing to the seller though for some other media player

and the seller who agreed to ship them to India
and btw Happy Independence Day to you all
