HiMedia OWNERSHIP THREAD

You can install firmware of any player which have the same chipset. I have tried firmwares of measy X6, sidewinder etc. on HD600b. Some times these firmwares will work, sometimes not. You will need to do a force upgrade.

I know its an option but there is a high risk of bricking the player and voiding its warranty

you can read futeko forum lot many have made their player brick

anyways, I dont find much use of flashing hd900B with another firmware just for some jukebox...

they keep updating their firmware themselves which is quite good and sufficient

Yes it is very easy to revert back to original FW. Xtreamer UI is rich and also it has lot of other plugins. only issue with audio .dts and dts hd ma formats

safe mode revert back to original is a option but that doesn't work always as read in different forums including futeko, anyways if it works for you its gr8

I personally don't feel the need to try other firmware, also like audio issues with other firmware if the basic function doesnt work then why get the fancy stuffs which breaks the basic functionality of this player

blowing some chi into the dormant thread :D

can any of the members here who also have logitech SBT pls let me know how a 900B fares in comparison to the SBT, esp. in FLAC playback ? would be glad to know :)

there should ideally be no difference provided the speakers are same, but if anyone listened to both pls point out the difference

as a himedia owner I would not like to hear the himedia sounded bad :)

yes ..even i have tried out al most all i could find ..egreat , measy , etc most times unresponsive to the remote :) :)

but finally settled on Xtreamer side winder 2 (3.0.11 )

now i can controll it with my android phone (using xtreamer app )
or from the laptop ...but to my surprise most of the buttons work with our remote. yes there are difficulties at times.

am still trying to figure out how to use transmission / or any remote torrent client with this. one with scheduler so that i can set it download at night. :( :(

some help !! pls.

Where can I purchase the 900B? Detna does not have any stocks and their responses as to when they will get new stocks is vague at best. I've been regularly checking with them for more than a month now and am wondering if there's any other source.

you could check with futeko.com, or focalgadgets.com. i would recommend the former. become a member of their fourms (which would help in the long run when you get the player) and directly ask the admin, or may be a simple email would also suffice.

There is an egreat_r300 model available with microcom solutions , bangalore. Same chipset and can do everything as Himedia . You can google for contact.

so i made a brief comparison between the 900B and the PS3, and have come up with my finding. a bit surprising (but still, somewhat expected), i saw :

1. For DVDs - PS3 shows a noticeably better upscaled picture, as well as richer audio.

2. MKVs - PS3 fares marginally better; just marginally. SQ seemed same to my ears. but given the hassles in running various kinds of MKVs on the PS3, i would like to choose 900B for its smooth-and-easy playback than the PS3.

by DVD upscaling by PS3, do you mean it actually makes the DVD pictures to 1080P ? bcoz that is impossible

and r u testing these in a HD LED TV ? since its hard to believe there is a PQ difference bwn PS3 and 900B, the former is not a dedicated media player and 900B does a quite impressive job if I compare it with my sammy 3D Bluray player, for me 900B is at par with sammy no difference.

the PS3 has a plethora of options to customise BD/DVD playback. among these is an option called 'BD/DVD upscaler', which upscales an SD Video to HD resolution to be watched on an HD TV. although it was set-off when i played my DVD, and i also didnt tinker with any video-playback settings prior playing the videos. also, later on i checked that the audio-playback had also similar settings which was by default set on 'automatic'.

i checked it on my VT20. and the PS3 is a formidable movie-player. atleast till 2006-2007, it was one of the best, if not the best such device that doubled as a gaming console, and still can give many dedicated BD-players in the market a tough time.

let me know if you need any more details on the playback thing. sorry i didnt capture any screenshots as my camera isnt capable of doing justice to such things.
