Hollywood Movies to look forward to : 2011 - 2012

Directors who look at making films like Houseful and Tees Maar Khan are looking at making films which they think would work with the audience who watches bollywood films at large. They aren't really concerned whether their films are good or bad. They want their films to earn a lot of money and that's it.

I was watching an interview of Anurag Kashyap who said he is now learning the art of making his films financially viable slowly. He said he would make films the way he wants them though.

The logic of escapism just doesn't work where I am concerned. For instance, if you really want to see a comedy film, there are some hilarious ones out there. I don't see what delight you can get from a film which has people screaming all the time.

Think we are singing the same tune but with different instruments. Agree with you on some points.

Btw, what's the harm in making movies that will earn a lot of money. That is THE business of movie making. The point I want to drive is that the directors lose the plot entirely, in your example Housefull and Tees Maar Khan. Do you think that many of the movies listed on this thread (... movies to look forward to) are realistic and the big production houses do not wish for large RoI?

Cinema is escapism for many, else Satyajit Ray's Pather Panchali would be the top grosser. How the audience will relate to his/her work is the director's vision.
As for Bollywood, film-makers do rant a lot of things. A verdict can be given only once the movie releases.

I have written much and don't want to deviate from the topic of this thread. No comments please. Appreciate it.

As you have asked questions, I will respond. Well they are clever people as they know how to earn money. I wouldn't call them movies though really. By your same logic, because porn films are a huge hit, would you call it cinema as well. There is a worrying trend at the moment in bollywood. If you look at earlier biggest grossers like Mughal-E-Azam or Sholay, they had cinematic merit in them. Houseful or Tees Maar Khan doesn't have any.

Escapism is the reason why they watch people shouting in the name of comedy? I don't buy it. I think a large part of the audiences are dumbed down now. There is no better evidence of that than the television. We used to have quality serials during the doordarshan days where we now have Big Boss and Rakhi Ka Insaaf. I was at a party and a girl was explaining with a lot of emotion to me that Akshay Kumar ate some food in Masterchef India and tears started rolling down his eyes. I still can't believe some one would buy that it was real. Heh.

How the audience will relate to his/her work is the director's vision.

It is a businessman's vision, not a director's vision.

Guys any suggestions/comments/discussions on the movies shared......???

Pratts ..... every movie has an audience ..... every single one ..... you can not pass a judgement on the audience intellect per their movie/serial preference or standard as such ..... what for you is pathetic might be decent for the others, and that in no way mean others are substandard in whatever respect ........

RAVAN example given is perfect, for me RAVAN is and will remain one of the most boring and crappy movies of Bollywood, and Singh Is King despite of total slap stick and cliched still remains enjoyable time pass ........ so you see ...

I am entitled to my opinion and till I see enough reason to change my opinion, I won't.

I switched on a channel recently which was showing a person in South Indian accent that he was taking a break. Every one laughed. It was supposed to be funny. Channel V keeps on about prejudices in the Indian audiences as well. There was a guy who acted like he was from South India complete with a dhoti. The girl was white while the guy was dark. She was being pretty rude with the guy. When they shook hands in the end, she made a face like she had smelled garbage. It was pathetic. These shows are usually fixed and it is not good at all how they are projecting stuff. It works though in the name of fun.

The reason you give that 'it has an audience' was also given by Sajid Khan when he was countered by Gowarikar in an Awards show where he kept making rude jokes about others.

Heh.

127 hours releasing on 28-Jan. Saw a life-like poster yesterday. Hope it is a good one. Some really flattering reviews on rottentomatoes.com. My audio guy just called to say he got the OST. It seems to be flying off the shelves pretty quickly.

Is this is Sequel or Prequel to The Sorcerer's Apprentice? Look of cage and Plot seems so...

Gowarikar was an **** if he was not able to comprehend and could not take a joke on himself ............ seriously is this your argument backup.....give me a break!!!!

Gowarikar pointed regarding the over all jokes, not jokes on him.

Any way my point was regarding Sajid Khan raising an argument that as the audience would buy it, it was justifiable. So by that logic, you could support the Channel V stuff too.

Also, chill.

Sam, please do not use such words, however angry you are and whatever the provocation.

Pratters, can you please back off a bit and not comment on everything. Sam is just posting his own wishlist. If you do not like the movies, it's directors or actors, that is certainly your option. But please stop commenting. It is raising tempers unnecessarily.

Thanks. Cheers. VenkatCR
