Interesting but more of marketing mix article. Room treatments are the cheapest tweak one can do and get very good response from your setup. Re: speakers, I have a pair of ribbon speakers in my secondary system (LSA Statement 1 monitors) because I have some placement constraints but they sound absolutely fabulous. Electrostats on the other hand are very hard to place and also require very source amplification to sound their best.

Yes.OTOH many people do not seem to realise the benefits of active modes of room treatment-drapes, carpets, room treatment etc. This statement on the same link was interesting:

We find that only about 25% of our audiophile customers have great rooms. The rest of us have to work a little harder. But treat your listening room appropriately and it will treat you to many years of musical bliss.
