Tanoj,
it is a long story. I will share soon.

After seeing these comments, just for the heck of it, got a friend to call, the guy picked up and asked from where, we said Trivandrum, then he disconnected. I personally also sent an SMS message but no response :(

This is my opinion, no efforts here to undermine the seller, if he's genuine. Just a comment based on circumstantial evidence.

WOW, so it was too good to be true

I personally prefer recommendations only and specifically for out station buys.

I got me NAD 3020i through Reuben's reference and believe you me, it was much appreciated (both interaction wise and product quality was top notch) worth every penny I paid for it.

I think you should raise a complaint with the cyber police or likewise. These guys should not be let off.

BTW Reuben, I was just Privileged to hit your 1001 thanks.

Congratulations on this Reuben. I would not call this an achievement as one does not try to achieve this, but like the forum says, you have built a reputation, a reputation that has surely been built over the years with sheer honesty, passion and knowledge sharing.

Salud!!!!

My friend send money for two Shure 44-7 packed cartridge on seeing an ad on OLX Trichur only to realize he was taken for a ride. He used some influence through Senior Police officials to get his money back. But the ad is still on OLX. How can a person who pays the money get it back?. Will OLX do anything to get the money? We must think seriously to stop this scam otherwise, genuine sellers and genuine buyers will suffer

Since these transaction are based on non-commercial basis i.e. between two individuals and not between company and buyer, they cannot be brought under the Consumer Protection Act.

It is better to lodge a complaint for cheating before the police. But how the police will react without any influence is a BIG question.

As a buyer, one should always be aware of certain things while dealing online.
  • Make online payment/ bank transfer. In that way you have the proof of making a payment as well as have the identity of the person in case of any need.
  • Before making payment, verify the product by asking for many pictures as possible from various angles.
  • Ask the seller to prove that the product belongs to him by adding his name and date on a piece of paper while taking the pics (how things go on hivision sale)
  • Ask for scanned copy of PAN card, residential proof of the seller.
  • Search with his name in google and see what comes up. An authentic seller will definitely not create a fake name.
  • If he says his name is XXX and ask you to make payment in favour of ABC, then there is some doubt.

It is not at all possible to eliminate these issues, but at least we can try to minimize it. There is no substitute for physical verification though.

Shafic,

It was an year ago, I'm not sure if he is the same person, but for sure I could figure out he was from Cochin, and his accent proved it to be.

I was about to get bunked in to buying a B&W speaker for 10K . I was so tempted to credit him that amount, online, instantly. Back of the mind , prompted me to tell him to take a token advance, and would pick up directly during Christmas holidays, which was just a month to pass..

I got apprehensive about his hesitation, and about his repeated insistence of paying it up front. When I told him, that my staff would pick it up, he further bend down back wards to waive of the courier charges, and said he would ship it free. There, the doubt started

I can only remember, he had a feline voice..And , after 2 weeks when I got tempted to kneel to his norms and go by his own terms and conditions, his mobile was switched of.. I think, in that stop gap, he would have found some prey..Thank God,

Don't you guys check the credential of an online seller when deal with an absolute stranger with no reference at all? Like checking his presence in social media like facebook account, twitter, how active or old his accounts are etc. just to be satisfy yourself.

Even if he gives all accurate data and later gives you a faulty/ wrong product, recovering money still won't be easy. But just to be on the safe side...

In Olx there is one 'scam flag' for each add. I think this flag is for highlighting such looters adds.

The same seller who sold the 3020 to Record Player has a NOS NAD 306 up for sale in what he calls mint condition. Was asking for 16K earlier so obvously nobody bought it, now he's ready to offer it for 9k as a clearance sale. Those interested can get his number form me (or perhaps, Record Player). No interest either personal or commercial in such transactions but sharing for the following reasons:

  1. NAD amps are not easily available these days, good ones are extremely hard to find
  2. NAD amps are a good deal, good start for those venturing out into the world of 2-channel hi-fi
  3. Great amps for simple and content stereo listening
  4. Love the brand and its products, want others to experience them as well
