Need suggestion

2.1 is my recommendation. and if you keep a tv in between the speakers, for both movies and music the phantom center won't be as convincing.
A projector is a better option without the center speaker.

Hi to all,

Recently I purchased a Marantz SR5013 AVR and Q acoustics 3050i floor standing speakers. I have the least possible to go for an audition, but planning to add some new elements for my set up, now the confusion grows between 2.1 or 3.0...

I planned to built slowly due to budget constraints. Kindly advise.

If subwoofer as the next, I have choices in my mind based on reviews.
For subwoofer :
1.) Q acoustics QB12
2.) XTZ 8.17 (2)- <..will add one by one..>
3.) XTZ 10.17

Preference : Music - 50% Movies - 50%

Kindly suggest in all possible aspects.
Thank You.

Magesh Babu K

Rule of the Thumb, for a good movie experience, you need a 3.1 (ideally 5.1) setup and 2.1 for Music. So if you go with a 3.1 configuration, you will have both the scenarios covered. You can add the Center channel now and based on the overall Bass experience, take a call on the Sub.

IMO, Since you have divided both movies & music to 50:50, Then my suggestion is invest in a good center for the time being.
Center is a must for movie watching and then your Floor standers will accept quite a good bass for stereo however for movies they can manage but not recommended. You will need a decent sub for movies and for the sub budget what you told .. you will get a pretty decent sub.

So, First a Center (Used or New One) and then a sub woofer (Used or new one). Both are very much necessary honestly.
Always try for used ones first if you get opportunities they are blessing!! Trust me. If not and you are loosing time then go for new ones after demoing them.

Attached a photo. Thanks in advance.
Thanks for sharing these pics. I feel you've gone overboard with the excessive speaker toe in which will inevitably result in a diminished soundstage! The 3050i does not like too much toe in. I suggest you push them further back towards the corner maintaining a distance of around 2ft between each speaker and side/back wall and more importantly face each speaker straight forward, play vocal heavy tracks and check out the width of the soundstage. You might be pleasantly surprised with the result.
