DTH major Airtel digital TV on Sunday said it has enabled all its high definition and HD recorder set top boxes (STBs) to show standard definition channels with improved quality.

Customers can view all their favourite programmes with enhanced contrast with sharper, brighter and more vivid picture quality. This feature is available at no extra charge for all Airtel digital TV HD, HD Recorder customers, Airtel digital TV said in a statement.

I was hoping for all the DTH operators joining the bandwagon... they just need a firmware upgrade to be done to enable 1080p output through HDMI... Not sure how much it will improve SD quality, however this all is happening due to that silly Dish FraudHD campaign... Hope it helps Full HD TV owners...

It is nothing but bullxxxx. All HD st-top boxes upscale, which is exactly what the Airtel STB does. HD marketing in India is turning out to be nothing but a pack of lies and a total fraud by most of the DTH companies. Dish FraudHD started it and Reliance and Airtel aree now following up with more of the same.

Its the same gimmick like "3D" they did after D2H launched a 3D channel claiming their STB to be "3D" STB!

This is really yet another LOW Indian advertising can get.. Propagate any thing which already exist like they just launched and make the Indian consumer start to day dream... WOW what an HD sirji This is probably the reason we were INVADED so many times!! We just believe in anything without even understanding the underlying facts... God bless all.....

We live in a democracy. Wheels of justice are usually stationary, so require a much higher starting torque :lol:. Once they start moving, you'll see the Govt. cracking a whip on all broadcasters. Till then we get a choice between more evil and less evil.

On a related note it's all the same for elections as well, but I still vote every time .

I started noticing since last 3 days.Official announcement was done on Sunday.Colors has improved,but sharpness of regional ch is not that good.

An excerpt from a news item is below. I think it makes a lot of sense to upscale SD channels in a box to HD without charging customers. Going ahead this is what all vendors should do instead of charging customers for their precious upscaling technology.
