Hello guys.......

I know this is been asked many times and many threads r running over this but even after viewing all the threads i am still confused.

i will like to hear a straight answer.

My viewing

Mostly DIVX Movies (2 cd's Print)
Occasionaly Hidef 720p connecting via laptop. (avg one movie/month).

i want :

best colours relatively.
my viewing will be in dark room
no blurring/ghosting

preference will be given to best picture quality.

Pls don't consider the price difference or the electricity bills.

Models considered:

Sony W Series - KLV-40W400A
Panasonic plasma VIERA TH-42PV8D

one thing more like panasonic has two contasts:

High Contrast 1,000,000 : 1 (Native 15,000 : 1)

which one is comparable to Sony's dynamic contrast {33000:1}
native or high contrast?

thanks for viewing this.
i am planning to buy one within 2-3 days

no other brands pls
i dont want to add confusion.

thanks a ton
Cheers

STRAIGHT ANSWER - BUT THE PANNY!!

There is absolutely NO WAY the Sony can beat Panny on all these parameters. In fact there is NO WAY an LCD can beat a Plasma for black levels, colour, contrast and motion blurring - even more so on SD content!!

Reviews world over have uniformly rated the Panny as THE BEST in its bracket!

Please go ahead and pick it up ... I did!! :D

I was going through your details and Sujit beat me to the reply so I will only 2nd what he says.

Only Panasonic that too when its the PV8 model. For SD content like TV, DTH, DVDs, Divx rips it is the best. Also, I have found from personal experience that Plasma is better than LCD, but its my personal experience! Also, there is no difference that you or I can make out between 720/768 and 1080i/1080p.

Finally, only thing I have seen better than the PV8 is the Kuro from Pioneer, but that's not even available here in India unless you import it and it will cost a bomb, but yes the Kuro series from Pioneer are the best yet and the only ones to better the PV8.

Just go ahead and get the PV8 like Sujit did, like I did, and so many others on this forum.

thanks a ton guys

u cleared my confusion...

can u tell me the difference between high contrast and native contrast?
which is comparable to sony's dynamic contrast?

just for the knowledge sake.

Not really. What you need to look for is static ratio and not dynamic, but you will note all manufacturer's will quote the dynamic instead just like for audio PMPO is quoted. You can take this into consideration if comparing two LCD TVs or two Plasma TVs. I don't think the contrast ratio between an LCD and Plasma will come into consideration since both are different technologies, but I am no expert in this matter.

Dynamic contrast is a way for the TV to try to be smart by darkening the darker backgrounds or night scenes and enhancing the light scenes. This does not increase the definition much - rather its been said by owners that the dark scenes looked unnatural.
