Plinth for Lenco L-75

That's very true Sachin, quick query, as per the design, is your Lenco top plate screwed down in the center area (apart from the side bolting? Just curious. Btw, lovely tonearm that really is.
Thanks Reuben! I will also screw down it from center area.

Sachin

Also, is the plinth being made from drawings or have you sent the chassis across? Just curious :)
It is being made from drawing. I didn't send Lenco chassis. Hopefully it should fit well, fingers crossed. Sadik bhai's workmanship is excellent. I insist him to make plinth for me. I still have Technics Sp-12 without plinth and tonearm, one Akai for full restoration, including plinth and few more :)

Sachin

Actually 10 MM wasn't available, so he used 18MM top layer and removed(on CNC) 8MM part from MDF where pan rests.
You can see it in pics.

Sachin

I was unable to get 10 mm MDF for same hence i had the go for the flusing method. The top Mdf is 17 mm thick and the resting area is flushed by 10 mm deep. I was really much worried for same as 10 mm thk MDF was difficult to find with the CNC guy. I though of gluing 8mm & 2 mm mdf, but the sizes when actually measured for 8 mm MDF was 8.5 mm & for 2 mm MDF was 2.5 mm so the total becomes 11 mm. I had already cutted the sizes from 8 mm MDF & 2 mm MDF without checking the thickness, hence they are now pieces of scrap because the total thickness became 11 mm that too without Gluing & From my experience after gluing the Total thickness will be around 11.25 mm & after Final Paint it might go upto 11.5 mm which is 1.5 mm more than the requirement

What about the dust cover piece, is that also being undertaking by FM Sadik?

Great job!

The entire concept of having a heavy plinth for the Lenco fails if the bottom of the pan area of the top plate does not mate directly to the plinth below it. In a mass-loaded plinth we no longer rely on the stock spring suspension of the Lenco but rely on the mass of the plinth to sink and dissipate vibrations from the motor.

But having said that, I find some form of viscoelastic footer between plinth and rack shelf very helpful. I have tried hard coupling (brass cones and bearing ball based footers) and even four tailor made springs. One can choose footer to tailor the sound to one's taste.

@sachu888 don't be afraid to drill holes in your pan area for screwing down the top plate securely to the plinth. More is merrier in this case.

The White color is finalized by Sachin, it will match with his pair of bookshelf. Its a White Matt Finish. I had left it to dry today. Now the work remains is for Dust Cover. Thanks Sachin ( @sachu888 ) for the keeping the patience.

A little glimpse at my next Project (Book Shelf Speakers)

Will start the thread soon...

Sadik

Have you considered replacing top metal plate with simple steel 4mm thick plate? My carpenter took one look and said he would be able to duplicate it easily in his CNC lathe. Will be only the circular portion, and will have holes exactly as in the original metal plate. Don't you think It will make a difference?

I cant say.. I am just making the Plinth. I dont have Turn table.

I wanted to keep the original look, and I don't think steel top would have made much difference.

Out of curiosity, do you plan to have the dust cover, sit on the plinth table top or slide over the sides to encompass the entire plinth and feet? I have seen some designs where in the sides of the table top is ribbed for dustcover seating.

Dust cover on the top of the plinth. Sadik bhai has already drilled holes for hinges.
