Hi folks,

Planning to upgrade to SVS-PB-1000, current placement of Polk -110 (down firing port) is in front right corner of the room, surrounded by wall on 2 sides, TV unit wall on 3rd side and Sofa (begining end) on 4th side.

SVS's front port will be 6-8 inches away from sofa ( I leave same space on all 4 sides from SW ). I think it is a hindrance / obstruction for this SW port. It may not perform at its best.
Considering this, should I only look for a SW with downward firing port?
Suggestions Please.

Hi

SVS PB 1000 is a great subwoofer and if you can manage to keep atleast 6-8 inches gap from the sofa then It should work.....why not go to the dealer and audition the subwoofer and place something in front of it 6-8 inches away...you will come to know the difference....if it is too boomy or muddy.....there is still time....demo and decide with your music...all the best

Hi, I see that you are keen on the ported PB 1000 - maybe because your preference is more into movies. Last what I was aware it retails for around 40 - 42 K. Do try to audition the Dali E 12 F. A touch higher at 46K, but at least worth hearing it out. Cheers.

From where did you come across such a low price quote of RS.46000 for the Dali E12F sub. It is quoted Rs.55000 at technoguru?

This is the space for sub-woofer. its surrounded on all 4 sides. Sofa side is the front side, my current front firing Subwoofer (with down-firing port) is facing the sofa side.
The SVS PB-1000 front firing port will be 3 to 4 inches away from sofa, i feel this may not bring the best out of it. Though Sofa has 3 inches ground clearance and PB-1000 port
is in bottom right corner, still port face will be above the sofa clearance area.

Hi

If Bose has their hideaway module which is placed in tight corners or even in a unit...don't see how would the bass be an issue when there seems to be some breathing space available on all sides....

Like I said before, it depends on what frequencies you send to the subwoofer, if your front speakers can handle maximum ...80hz etc...let them do that and you send the remaining lower ones to the subwoofer...I am sure it will sound better....keep trying and toggling frequencies....m sure you will come to a satisfaction point.

Frontfiring or downfiring won't matter much. So Buy with confidence. 6" of gap between the port and the obstacle would be sufficient.

Using LFE + Main, As my Rti A1 can handle 80Hz with ease, set the crossover to 80 Hz, except surrounds (Control 1) which is 90Hz.
I feel LFE+ Main sounds best, the overall sound has more weight and presence.

May be I should borrow PB-1000 from HT Store and give it a try.

Hi

I think you should do that....no harm trying......all the best...tune the frequencies appropriately and play something very bassy....then accordingly turn up the sub volume or levels for optimal performance....ask them to provide the demo PB 1000 which would be better as it would have completed its break in hours of playback to deliver optimal performance

Hi, Does HT Store lend subs for demo? Maybe in Bangalore only, I guess. They had advertised 45 day - No questions asked returns on the SVS SB 100 sub. Spoke to them about it, they said it is only for US of A and not applicable in India.

I'll demo with them first, SB and PB both. If I like any of them,I'll check at home (especially PB-1000) I hope they should be okay with it.
