Suggestion needed for getting an LCD TV

Hi All,

Can some one please help me with this?

I would like to go for a 40 inch LCD and HT(5.1) .
My budget is 90k.I already have a Sony s-550 BDP gifted by my friends.

Please find the other features I am interested in

a. watch downloaded HD videos from hard disk through USB.

b. i use tatasky so i would like to have good PQ.

c. good upscaling - would often play from DVDs.

d. 100Hz.

e. Need 1080p full HD



Can some one please guide me on this?


I was looking at samsung 40b650 but it cannot play movies from HD and the warranty is for 1 year which is only for the front panel and not the components. :sad:

go for SONY W-550 40 in with all necessary features you said.
Price dropped to 75k.It will better match with BDP & good SD unscaling too....

To correct its V series for 75 & W for 90k

Hi yourself. In that budget, you are better off getting the Panasonic PV8 and an HDMI-HTIB from Onkyo.

Obviously, it woud be better to take the seperates route. But for that, you might want to increase your budget. OR get the PV8, buy an entry level avr and a pair of floor standers for the time being. You may add the remaining speakers to finish the 5.1 or 7.1 as and when your finances allow.

PV8 is no longer a good buy.the LG and samsung plasmas are better ,they both have better image processing then panasonic models like pv80 and X10 and even G10,only thing is they loose out to the contrast levels of G10 but have comparable contrast to the X10/PV80.

Sorry ..im not tech person so ..please bear with me.. My quest is what's the use of HDMI - HTIB Onkyo and what is full deffinition of HTIB. if my presence of mind is correct HDMI HTIB is an solution to home theatre..??

To narrow down

1. Sony W Series from grey market- 75k - please let me know a place in chennai where i can get it.

2. philips DVP 5960 for to read from USB and also upscaling from DVD? - 5k?

3. If i increase the budget to 1 L. Can i get a good HT for the remaining 20k?

Also if i am not able to get sony for 75k may be try a samsung 40B650?

Sorry to bother with more questions on a sunday evening.
