Tata sky hd

hey aniket, it's not really blu-ray quality, because firstly it's 1080i and not 1080p and secondly they apply compression, whereas blu-ray is uncompressed. but yes it does look lovely by any objective standard.

Just spoke to one of the dealers. Most dealers in Bangalore are getting new stock of TS HD boxes by 1st or 2nd of July.

The wait continues........

in Mumbai i have checked all major stores , no one is having stocks , can any one help me with ready stocked outlet?

It depends also on the TV that u got...I got a samsung series 6 40" and it just rocks in it...Can't get more real than that....Signal is 1080i.Rest depends on tv.

Perhaps upscaled DVD wasn't the best example. Either way, it's pretty good and I like it.

I have a 2009 Sony 40" S550 FWIW.

Also wanted to mention, the activation was done on the spot. I didn't have to wait a single minute.

Edit: The WC in HD is brilliant. Watching it in HD makes me wonder how I could sit for almost 2 hours watching it in SD.

I think 1080i vs 1080p signal on native 1080p display would be quite similar.

And blu-ray video is compressed. The only un-compressed part would be un-compressed PCM audio track, if provided.

The difference of TS HD vs Blu-ray would be the amount of compression / bitrate.

^That's the point. The compression/bitrate limit degrades picture quality.

I disagree. 1080p50 provides 1080 field lines 50 times per second. 1080i50 provides 540 (=1080/2) lines 50 times per second (the odd 540 lines 25 times and even 540 lines 25 times). So 1080p delivers double the information than 1080i.

Also compression in blu-ray video is much lesser. Blu-rays have a maximum video bit-rate of upto 40 Mbits/sec (overall A/V bit-rate of 54 Mbits/sec). Compared to this, the best HDTV transmissions have a video bit-rate of 16 Mbits/sec with many achieving less than 10 Mbits/sec.

. Even though my 50" LG PQ60 is only HD Ready, the picture quality is amazing...

At least in the USA, "HD Ready" meant a TV that can display in HD but does not have a built in HD tuner / scaler, etc. Meaning, you cannot catch off the air HD broadcast and you'll need a STB. If this is the same terminology used in the Indian market, then why should the quality differ between HD Ready and HD TV? Since most people use STB, TV manufacturers are saving cost by reducing the hardware and that makes a lot of sense.

hey yes, my apologies. blu-ray is not uncompressed, but the level of compression is much less. The Tata Sky HD cannot be compared to blu-ray whichever way you slice it, but it's lovely.

I am from Kolkata and got Tata Sky HD installed yesterday. Initially I was also told to wait for 24 hours for the HD channels to be activated. But I called the Help-desk and gave them a blast. Know what they activated the HD channels in 5 minutes.

Watching World Cup and Wimbledon in 1080i HD was some experience. Its amazing and I thing its better than the 720p BRRips (which are pretty impressive as well) that I have been downloading from the net and playing on my LG Jazz Theater.

However I have encountered one negative issue. I think the volume of the HD channels is pretty low compared to the non-HD channels. I had to turn the volume on the HD box to maximum. However the plus point is because of this low volume the irritating vuvuzela effect seems to be negated

Hopefully when I connect my home Theater using digital co-axial the scenario will be better. In the mean time if anybody else has the same low volume issue can share their thoughts as well.

Dear All I finally got my Tata Sky HD today in the morning . I m an existing Tata Sky Customer so i got 1 year free Tata Sky subscription . Please note that I payed on installation and not via my card .These Installation chaps just replaced the STB , there was no change in the Cable or dish . They just swapped my It took around 10-15 min to boot it . The Installation guy told that it would take MAX 12 hrs to activate .

My initial review SD channels Brightened up a little , colours were better. Will get back with a full review

I Have a panny 42" C10

Hd Ready = 720p/1080i TV
Full HD = 1080p

My advice - call the CC people and see whether this 12 hour wait can be expedited. It doesn't take more than a few minutes to activate it.

Hey guys I got my HD stb installed and activated within 1 hour of placing my order with my previous dealer in Mumbai. my advice is that Don't search for stb's at major stores. The quality of HD channels is amazing. Hope Indian broadcasters also start beaming in HD
