The What Hi Fi Show 2013!

Was at the show today.

Burmester and the Focal rooms were bad. Period. Some Jagjit stuff was playing in the Burmester room. It sounded completely off and pathetic. In the Focal room, Dire Straits was playing. It sounded very edgy and shrill. I am sure the stuff in these rooms were great but some novice seems to have set it up.

Burmester was set up by CEO = Mr. Sunil Patel [Burmester India -P- Limited]
JM Labs Utopia Stella EM was set up by Mr. Gratin Vaz for PTC

Did you go to the 9th floor ?
2 Audiovision India - Snail & 800D were in those rooms.

For me the star of the show was pmc's setup and dynaudios bookshelves. Simply brilliant. The likes of b&w and dali were as expected, good performers and pricy. The tannoys setup was perfect and the speaker sounded good too. ...........

Yes, the PMC's played well.
The Dynaudio Contour has not been set up - they were just placed.
I will set them up on Saturday post 1400 hours.
I will also change the Excite 34 for the Excite 38.

I personally like the Dynaudio Contour more - but since this is the international launch of the Excite Series & the CEO of Dynaudio is present, I am forced to play the Excite Series.

If you visit on Saturday, I will play the Contour for you - in the 'right' position.

Please do get your own cd's

Thanks.

I am traveling from Ahmedabad tomorrow just to attend the show . Also hope to meet few FM . Bhawagan : I have not met you anytime before but would like to meet you there . So how do I meet you ?

Great;

Do ask for me in Room # 1008 - post 1400 hours.
If I am not there - someone will call me & I will come to the room in 10 mins.

Would be nice to meet you.

Do get your CD's [personal Music] !
:p

A few comments, for whatever they are worth...

It is a decent show, well worth a visit.

The star is undoubtedly the PMC room, kudos to Mr. Khushroo for setting it up so well.

The B&W rooms were equipped with some fancy equipment, but sadly, B&Ws have never really tickled my ears.

The Tannoys did not sound too great.

The Dyn Excites sounded ok, but maybe they need to also have the Contours on display to make their room come alive.

The Paradigms were not setup very well, I have heard the S8s to sound much better.

The Legacys were a pleasant surprise...to my ears the imaging and resolution sounded good, but be sure to ask the exhibitor to keep the volume at sane levels, as the bass is way overpowering at the levels he enjoys demoing them.

Thanks Bhagwan. I have heard stuff at Boomerang. Grattan sets it up well. Maybe the Focals have had no break in. Ditto for the Burmester.

No Bhagwan, i did not visit the 9th floor. I had come down specifically to hear the Tannoys.

H = No
A = No
D = Yes

You can come to listen to the Dynaudio Excite & Contour Series with Parasound Amplification..

Thanks Bhagwan

Was there last evening at 6. Heard the excite 34 as well as the contour bookshelves. Very nice. Unfortunately the focus bookshelves weren't set up.

@ Magma

Great rack and speaker stands.

Thanks Bhagwan

Sir,
If I had my way, I would display & set up just 1 speaker in the room.
However, I am not the 'boss' & I have to 'listen' to what Savoy India wants to get done.
Today, I will change the set up.
The Excite 38 will come into play & the Contour too will be more 'optamised'
I am sorry for the Exite Book Shelf - that was not played - only on static display....The Focus B/S too were not present.

Thanks for your visit.

Would have been nice to have met you - maybe I was out - doing some rounds.

Most Welcome on Saturday....

@ Prem,
No Comments on Boomerang;
The Burmester is 100 % Broken In.
It is a 2 year old speaker.
Infact, this model has been 'phased' out now by Burmester. If not yet, will do so - soon.
The 800D in the room on the 9th floor, played well.
If you come back - do go to it.
The Legacy HT Demo was good too.
I liked it for the price too.

In case I come back will definitely visit the B&W room.

I think I had heard the Thiels at Boomerang. I thought it sounded ok. You have probably heard the Thiels set up much better. I sincerely wish you or Jilla had set up the other rooms also. It would have benefitted all music lovers

Quite a lot of focus on speakers. Which are the great amps etc on show? Will visit this after noon most likely.

Sir,

The focus was on speakers, because of all the components in a system, arguably it is the speakers which contribute the most in presenting the sound one finally hears from a system. Amps do make a difference, but not to the extent that speakers do. My apologies however for not mentioning any of the amps!

Some of the notables representing the amp brigade were Arcam, AVM, Bel Canto, Burmester, Bryston, MBL, Parasound, Jeff Rowland, Lexicon (HT).

The Parasound struck me as good vfm.

Thanks for your insightful response but don't worry, I will check it out myself.

Luckily was able to attend the show yesterday. Thanks Denom for letting me tag along and hear and learn so much. I have taken down a few notes, will elaborate on them and post on the forum soon.

It was nice to meet Denom, Ozzstriker (Ozzie), Prem sir and Bhagwan (Mazher), Khusroo and his team.

The best setup was undoubtedly PMC. The twenty.23s with AVM gear was brilliantly setup by Khusroo. Truly balanced and all-rounder sound. Moreover Khusroo is a great host.

Most of the setups were terribly hampered by the horrible room acoustics. That was the biggest issue in the show.

Tannoy was also very nicely setup by Jignesh bhai from Surat. Turnberry sounded surprisingly classic with a Bel Canto class D setup.

Sadly could not spend much time with Bhagwan and the dynaudio setup. The little time i spent in there, the bookshelves were playing and they sounded good.

Forgive me, i am not adept at describing the sound with proper adjectives but I will do a small write up on the other setups in layman terms shortly. I think Denom sir will be able to do a more detailed write up and review if he gets the time.

Thanks once again Denom and everybody for the experience.

i was there yesterday

but dint got to meet any forum member because all were unknown to me, it was my first ever visit to show lik this but enjoyed it.
