Hi guys,

I have an opportunity to buy a combination of used Canton Vento 890DC speakers (almost new) with Still Unison Research Nuovo amp and Unison Research CDP (3-4 yrs old) for around 1.5L. There's not much available on the web on these but whatever I could find looks quite positive. Haven't auditioned these so far but could you pls advise:
  1. Any experience with any of these components? Are they worth the money?
  2. What else can I buy for this kind of cash? Any comparable or better options?
My musical tastes are quite eclectic; from ghazals and quawalis to Hindustani classical to hard rock to Bollywood.

Would appreciate any advise you can offer. A few reviews below:

I think the simplest answer is , carry your music discs to the sellers place and listen to it on the system. If you like it and it sounds worth it to you, buy it. I assume you know how much the system originally costs and also it's present condition. Use an appropriate de-rating factor and determine a price. Try to figure out if you will get back that price if you sell it again next month !

You cannot afford to buy it blindly just because someone else liked it ! For 1.5 lakhs you can buy many other (new) good systems. You will have to look around and audition them however. It will be worth the trouble. You will have to live with it 'happily' for at least 5 to 10 years if not more ! :)

I'd never be pushed into buying something quickly. I need to hear it first and satisfy myself that it is good. Others opinion could be a guiding factor but not necessarily the deciding one ! It's quite possible you might just not like it yourself ! So don't take chances with that kind of money. Listen to it in addition to looking for reviews and opinion. ;)

Thanks for the "fantastic" reply, bro. Yes, auditioning is the next step for me but just wanted to check out here if Canton/Unison is a brand worth making the effort since I had not heard much about these.

Hope some others gurus can pitch in to help and advise.

HI Himesh
Thanks for the private message. I have bought Unison Nuovo (95W) version recently. During audition, I paired the amp with Unison CD players, Spendor Sp3/1R2. It was mind blowing experience. I auditioned several amp/speaker combination but I fell in love with this combo immediately. Also, my input source was Macbook, so I didn't buy CD player.
As mentioned by "Fantastic", you have to audition it with right song/music in order to make judgement. My friends guided me through the process still, I loved something which is not in anyone's wish list.
All the best

I bought my speaker/amp from the same seller so he agreed to give cables and spender stand free. Altogether I paid 3500 which is roughly 3.5Lakh. The speaker cost was around 2K and amp was around 1.7K. I got good bargain from the seller

Hi all,

I auditioned and bought the said system. Yet to be installed in my new home. Will post some pictures once set up and give you my inexpert comments
