Hii
Jus like u said.. It can passhrough the audio thru the optical output.... Can it Passthrough DTS and Dolby thru HDMI?
Wat Abt WD TV Live... Does this support DD nd DTS....?

I have a WDTV Live and it supports passing through both DD and DTS via optical as well as HDMI (I am currently using an HDMI cable).

My Setup - WDTV -> HDMI -> AVR -> HDMI -> TV.

Hope this helps.

For those interested, the latest price of the WD HDTV Live, in Kolkata, is Rs 5600/- including VAT.

From which dealer? Is this WDTV's official price in India?

From at least two dealers in the Chandni Chowk area in Kolkata. I would assume that there's been another price drop or they're trying to clear off stocks.

WD TV Live Hub (the new model with 1TB disk) official MRP is 16500. Computer Warehouse (Barton Center, MG Road, Bangalore) is quoting 12000 + tax for the same.

WDTV Live Hub was retailing at an Expo for Rs. 10500 - (at no special offer) in Delhi.

For WDTV (1st gen) owners, just thought I would pass on a helpful link.

I recently upgraded the firmware on my WDTV (1st gen) to b-rad firmware and also installed the software to get moviesheet displayed.
Earlier, I was reluctant in doing this as the info/instructions available was sometimes not comprehensible and sometimes assumed pre-required knowledge about some concepts i.e until I came across this site which had crisp instructions, bundled with firmware and other software along with easy to follow videos.

Roman's Tech Help: How to Install Custom Firmware on your WDTV!

I have gotten to the part of installing the software for displaying moviesheets I am generating using Thumbgen.
Next weekend I plan to follow the instructions to install networking capability on my WDTV.

Seems like I can postpone upgrading my media player for a few more months. :)

Feel free to thank me if you find the info useful. :)

@gem: For movie sheets you can sue Tvixie. After experimenting with lot of software I found this to be the best but some people swear by WD movie generator. So experiment and have fun.

p.s: Though i did this religiously, off-late I switched it off as it takes more loading time :)

Actually the instructions on that website has him using TVixie, but I found myself more comfortable with the UI of Thumbgen.

>>p.s: Though i did this religiously, off-late I switched it off as it takes more loading time

Yes, I noticed more boot up time with the new firmware and the software for the new GUI. But I did not notice any appreciable time delay in showing the moviesheet image.

Hi

I am not being able to play an mkv file. I have a 2nd generation WD TV. Can some one assist me to play it? I believe I have the latest firmware..

Thanks.

This sucks. Compressed Header in Matroska The WD TV 1st and 2nd generations is basically useless for trying most latest mkvs apparently because of this. It is pathetic they aren't upgrading a simple upgradation. DO NOT buy WD TV 1st or 2nd generation. Frankly, given this terrible attitude, I might not even buy a WD TV product ever again.

Dire stuff.
