Western Digital WD TV HD Media Player - a HTPC replacement??

Just bought WDTV Live from computer warehouse for an all inclusive Rs. 6469. Its a little more cause I used my debit card. I bought this as it supports 1080i over component and I will be sticking with my Philips crt tv for some more time. The upscaled image is just average. Progressive scanned image of around 576p from my Philips dvd player looks better. Still discovering what all this little genie can do. Its brilliant for what it is. I updated the firmware as what came with it was old school 1.02.21. Its now 1.04.31.

If anybody is using WD TV Live Hub 1 tb,then could you please confirm if this can pass dobly 5.1 and DTS 5.1 signal ,when connected through Optical cable.
Currently i am Using Sony Fl 5d and i plan to connect Wd TV hub with this unit through Optical cable for digital sound.

One question... somewhere in the thread MBR has expressed that WDTV (maybe gen1) does not support USB casing with IDE hdd. Is it the same with WDTV gen2 or WDTV live? I am asking this because I am having some old external 2.5" HDD in chinese casing with USB port. Some advice from experts needed please.

It is nearly a week I posted a question but no answers. Have people lost interest in this product on arrival of newer boxes from other manufacturers? Another question does it support Seagate Goflex portable drive of 500 gb capacity.

As far as I know, it supports any USB drive of any capacity. I have used it with drives ranging from 4gb to 2TB of many different brands. Works perfectly.

I hv actually upgraded from gen 1,model to the Live model,and after I had updated the system software, this is an amazing product,incl HD audio play in the video .

Just one question to all the user out there.. if i update with the latest wdtv firmware will it include all the updates from the previous releases.

Secodnly, has any one used B-Rad WDLXTV-PLUS for wdtv live plus firmware???? I am tempted to use this as it looks better than the official firmware..

Borrowed a cousins WDTV and hooked it up.to my Pany U30 Plasma. works like a charm..plays everything with no hiccup what so ever...
Both as a network streamer as well as direct play through HDD..... Do not see the need now to do any R&D for buy a more expensive product.. Highly recommended.. !!!! Managed to do all the configurations without any probs even at 2 AM at night..( blurry eyed - half asleep )hyeah:

Now to connect it to my AudioLab DAC and see the results for Music on a network
