@kittu1977: I have listened to Kenny 7009, MP6539U and Pio 7250, and I liked the 7009 better. It is the Excelon series, and have better DAC from regular seris.

Couple of my friends have ICEd their cars @ EVO, and ar every satisfied.

Do you recomend any other units I want the head unit to support A2DP to make and receive calls from my (iphone 3gs) ?

I'm using Kenwood 7539BT, with this can receive and make calls through my HU. But I think they might've stopped this model already(although it's there on Kenwood site). Audio is quite good and comparable to any other similarly priced model(13.5k). although I've never done any A-B comparison.

hi kittu

that was a long read

now first off i see satya has blown your budget from 30k to 50k
Typical

now let me ask you
are you ok with this budget ?
after seeing the market what exact budget would you like?
Only after knowing that i can adviceyou further

Let me give you a few pointers in the meantime
Every Installer even the good ones and even my own friends(installers) are partial to some equipment, its quite natural since its theri business
i see nothing wrong in that as long as you make an informed descision

For the music you listen to (hip hop/metal) Dont dwell too much on SQ Hu's that specialise in mids
youre good to go with ANY pioneer or Kenwood as long as you get the features you want
DONT spend too much you need the money for the amp and sub

Now i would suggest a setup as below ( you have been adviced by rally and santhanol i think)
Component speakers in the front ( can give you what options ony after budget)
Subwoofer at the back
as a sub i may be wrong ut i think you would have fun with a bass tube considering your musical tastes
they come ready and you dont need to build a box too.
Get a JBL / infinity bass tube ( there are more exotic brands but go for the JBL for two reasons- one is that they are cheaper so if you dont like them you dont loose to much during upgrades and the other is that bass tubes dont differ much)
if your budget is slightly higher an Infinity bass tube would be excellent

if you find the bass tubes are not your taste get a 12 inch sub in a PORTED box ( not sealed)
Note : if getting a ported box note that such boxs require calculations or experience so select a propoer installer
they are easier to drive and better for your kind of music
Here to look at JL/ JBL /infinity/ground zero/
(NO Rockford please!)

For a 4 channel amp
consider the most poular
JBL GTO 1004
India JBL
cost about 12k-grey and about 14k with bill
or
the focal solid 4 is also a good speced amp
( its only that focal doesnt make amps and their amps are generally outsourced , i dont trust such products)

the JBL has more power and very good resale

Check PM reagurding installer options

I am definitly not ok with that budget and in my electronic knowledge I only have heard kenwood and pioneer names before none of the rest that was suggested to me.

Considering the music I listen and the phone call option from headunit I was thinking to get a good headunit with bluetooth capability and some good components with a SUB in the rear ........

I can expand my budget by 5k more making it to full 35 k complete.........

Please suggest some economy combo also I forgot to mention that I have a 2/1 channel amp which I kept from my previous car Blaupunkt 400w GTK II (if I am not wrong) .... Can I use that as an amp and connect components and sub to it....?

 confused confused confused

Help

Kittu...

Thanks kittu for this thread.

Hi magma, rallynut and santhol, Need your expert advice

I want to gift a setup for my brother's i-10 car. this is pending for quite sometime now because i got busy setting up my own home stereo 2-ch setup.

My budget is around 20k can stretch max to 25k. Looking for some decent setup - good SQ and bluetooth ability to recieve calls thru HU.
He is music crazy but not yet affected by HFV virus, so does not know anything about Hifi gadgets. His music collection is of SPB, Yesudas, Ilayaraja, Old malayalam/tamil songs,Carnatic, Kishore, Rafi etc.

you can definetely use that amp

you can use it either of 2 ways
Option 1:
bridge this amp and feed a 10 inch ported sub or a bass tube
The components to be run directly off the HU

Option 2
Use this amp for the component speakers\
Buy another 2 channel amp and bridge it to feed the sub/ alternatively get a monoblock amp for the sub

for 35k this is what i recommend

HU
DEH-6150BT
should be about 10k in grey and its got bluetooth
please note the suffix BT
i dont think any of the HU's above adviced by satya have bluetooth except for the 1st one

Front component speakers
you can look at
Rainbow SLX 265 Deluxe: About 13.5K-
Image Dynamics CTX65CS Comps: About 13.5K-
Focal Access 6.5" Component Speakers 13500 - best buy in banglore

Infinity Kappa 60.9cs Component System 6500-7000rs - good buy (a jbl dealer will have these)
Illusion Audio electras - 6500rs - thse availble with Ajay kamath Hermit Audio Pvt. Ltd. or PM him on this forum

Notice i have given you speakers in 2 price ranges to see what fits your final budget

AMplification'
Use your 2 channel blaupunkt for your front components
Buy a monoblock amp for the sub
look at JBL for VFM since you dont have much money left over
India JBL

its the GTO 3501
there is also a GTO 301.1 which is its older brother
both will do

dont know price but could be Rs 8k in grey
personally its a good option

if the monoblock is too expensive for you you may have to buy another two channle amp and bridge it for the sub
look towards JBL there too

NOW the SUB
get anything with the leftover money
im guessing you wont have much left over
so you can either look at a JBL bass tube for 7k
or a 12inch GT5 subwoofer (5k grey) in a ported box (1.5k)

Amp and speaker wiring with fuses

cost about 2-2.5k

instalation labour cost if you dont buy the equipment from your installer and buy from elsewhere and give it to him for install
Rs 1000-1500

oh and i forgot to add
Damping
swifts require this the most
you may spend anywhere between 3k and 7k just on damping depending on whether you damp the from doors, door and boot and according to the brand
Noisekill/dynamat etc

take the same advice given here- only you get a single 4 channle AMp from kenwood or JBL minimum 60rms/channel
there is also an i10 thread here where ive discussed options please check that

Awesome magma ....... You rock...... I will keep this in mind and to simplify the amp job I will ask the guys to see if they can offer me a trade with a 4ch amp....... Thank you for your time and suggestions ...

:eek:hyeah: I am going to take a print out of this thread when I go to the installers

Kittu

NO NO
dont trade for a 4 channel

First of all youll loose money
Secondly a monoblock for a sub and a 2 chanel for components means dedicated amps for each speaker
THat will kick the butt off ANY 4 channle amp!

unless you are gonna buy soething like this
http://www.indiajbl.com/CarAudioDesc.aspx?ID=8
costs about 14k

but placing 2 amps under car seat will be an issue right ?

And also can you list few choices of mono amps and subs .... ?

if you know their prices that will help me figure if I can strech a bit more and get the best of music......

:yahoo:

Magma has given some fantastic advice. You can fit the two amps against the back of your rear seat. This way you won't need to worry about water spray on your amp (during wash). Also, you can showcase your amps and accessibility is better in case you need to tweak the settings often. Try and get yourself a monoblock for the sub and a two/four channel amp for the components.

amps should be fitted in the boot at the back of your seat
the installer will do just that!
two amps will fit side by side

you should not however that when you add a sub your boot is gonna be full!

ask installer to use removable nuetrik plugs if you get the sub box made ( and dont get the bass tube)
this plug allows you to disconnect the sub easily so if you need boot space you can remove the sub box

there are many amp and sub options
however they will be expenive
if you calculate the options ive given you including wiring and instal costs i think you will probably hit 40k anyway!

do you really want more options ?

note just your damping costs will be about 3-4k minimum-ive added that to my post above

I think I'm gonna update my amplifier first and then the speakers. Actually I'm bit confused here. What I feel is that there is definitely some problem with either the speakers or the amplifier regarding the Sound Quality. It's sounding really harsh to my ears these days if I increase the volume. Specially the high frequency is sounding bit shrill and I need to reduce the treble a lot to keep it to listenable level but then even the enjoyment level also comes down. Speakers are around 4+ year old JBL GTO 607c(might be wrong with the model number but it was that time's best GTO speakers available) and amp is a crap GT5 amp(A640 or something). I strongly feel it might be the amp which is the culprit but I'm not sure considering the age of speakers. Another thing is that it might be the HU also(I've changed from an old Blaupunkt to this Kenny 7539BT). Oh I'm totally confused now. Or may be I'm getting old and my ears/listening has been hit hard by age ;-)
Anyway I may spend around 10k either for the amp or for the speakers next month. If I change the amp then I can probably use the existing 4 channel to be bridged all 4 channel to 1 to drive the sub (now it's 2 channel to 1 bridge). I don't even know if that is possible or not(4 to 1). And later go for a monoblock.

there shouldnt be anything wrong with the speaker or the amp if the model nos youve stated are correct ( unless ofcourse you really like laid back music-in which case i dont know how and why you selected your current components)

set the equaliser on the HU to flat.
increase the SLA/Loudness if you want

Well, I think I just now found the issue with the harshness. I had to reset the HU few weeks back and it seems by default Loudness is turned to ON (this somehow increases the high frequencies to quite a noticeable level) and Subwoofer phase is set to reverse. Silly me of not checking those settings. I've just changed the settings(Loudness off and sub to normal) and now I feel it's sounding better. But anyway, I still think that the amp needs to be changed because I increase the volume to around 25(max level is 40) level it starts cracking/clipping a bit.
I think I now like kind of laid back music (I can't just listen to heavy metals/rock anymore) and now I know JBL is not a good choice for that :-(. So any suggestions for both Speakers and Amp?

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
