Characteristics of Music

Can people around here throw some light on the audio characteristics of a particular type of music? The broad categories of music like classical, heavy metal, rock, jazz, inspirational, hindi old, hindi new etc and audio characteristic of each like bass, highs, lows, mids etc. this will be of great help in choosing right type of system to match personal choices.

you wont get far with this approach in terms of practical utility of any inputs.

BTW, I have come to the conclusion that even for carnatic music I prefer a system with the drive that hard rock listeners seek in their systems. I realized this when I connected my preamp to old 500 rupees comp speakers for testing hum etc and while playing some carnatic veena track The mridangam definitely sounded more groovy when the sound is raw!!
