Dubai HFV (Mini) Meet & Marantz CD 6003 vs. Emotiva ERC-1 CD Player Shootout

I was thinking of the same, but then I am new to this hobby and do not have an SPL meter. Will check with Venkatcr if has has carried it to Dubai.

SPL meter? Not necessary. I dont think Venkat talks so loud. He came across as a genteel soft spoken person to me :D

Cheers

well, hi, all -

this thread is open for (desultory) conversation for quite a few hours -

well?

WoW, HFV meet goes internationally:clapping:
1 se bhale 2,2 se bhale 3.
Get going friends.

aha! the king is holding court! two people... hmmm nice try but i beat you by a couple of days, i'm having a tube shootout all by myself :p :D

do post pics and a writeup about the meet very interesting meet indeed :)

desultory conversation: who do you think is gonna win the world cup? that's what's been keeping me busy all these days :yahoo:

the paraguay/italy one was a tough one and germany played much better than i expected them to. the best performance i've seen so far in the competition.

desultory conversation - I think it's going to be Spain. We need to create a separate thread and may be a poll

I've been supporting Spain since 1998. All of a sudden it feels strange to see them as 'favourites'. But I have seen enough of their self destructive instincts to believe that they won't be able to suppress those instincts for two major tournaments in a row. But then there was the Confederations Cup loss to the USA. hmmmm.

Desultory conversation:

A: Your goal or mine? :)
B: oh! Pahle aaap!
A: Nahin bhai! Aap pahale!!
B: Chalo, donno goal-goal maarke, chai peene chalte hai baad mein kutch music system ki sunwaayee karen? ...:eek:hyeah:

Cheers

Okay, back to topic folks.

The meet with Venkatcr did happen today finally. In the process of writing up the review and should be posted soon.

psychotropic, Venkatcr is here on holiday and hence did not carry the SPL meter, so the review is going to the opinion of two sets of ears, an expert one and a n00b one:)

quick quick. at least post the summary quickly. My wife is in Sinagapore on work, and I am toying with the idea of having her pick up a CD6003 if it's as good as people are saying it is.

While shopping in SG, you may also want to consider picking up the CA 650 CDP?

Regards

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting with Dhilip who is known to us as TheKinge. A fan of Elvis Presley, he has all the albums of Elvis and loves to hear his voice every day.

Dhilip is a very nice young man who specialises in IT architecture for the banking industry. He came across HFV as he was searching for some advice on buying a HT as well as audio system. After a few weeks in HFV Dhilip is considered to be an expert amongst his friends !!

Dhilip lives in a nice house in Bur Dubai - something like downtown Dubai. He is very soft spoken young man, married, with a 2 year old boy. Dhilip was kind enough to pick me up yesterday, drive me to his place, audition the Marantz and Emotiva, feed me with some lovely vadas, and then drop me back home.

Thank you, Dhilip, for your hospitality and kindness yesterday.

BTW guys, Dhilip will be writing about the shoot out between Marantz and the Emotiva. There certainly was a winner (in my mind), but I will make you people wait for a bit more till Dhilip makes his post. I will add my comments later.

Cheers

gentlemen! please at least declare a winner quickly! my wife is in singapore only till sunday! thank you :). And gobble, it's not like I absolutely need a source right now, but since the 6003 is going for a steal of a price in SG (as communicated by iaudio), I thought I should pick one up, and in case it's not that much better than my current source (or another source I am considering picking up), then I'll just sell it off on the forum.

All right Psycho, here goes. The Emotiva, in my opinion, was a clear winner. It has much larger sound stage, a clear positioning of instruments and voices, and what Dhilip called dead centering of the main singer. It also made the speakers disappear completely as it was able to radiate the sound away from the speakers. The Marantz, on the other hand was restricting the sound between the speakers.

The Emotiva has a fully metal solid remote. The only irritant with the Emotiva was the noise it makes when you load and unload a CD. And Dhilip was also saying that it refuses to read one in 10 CD R/Ws. Otherwise in terms of performance it certainly is way above the Marantz.

Apologies to TheKinge. I wanted him to be the main driver of this thread.

Cheers

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
