Hi Guys,

I have been working on the N3, N3s and the Servo Sub kits past couple of weeks.

For the Subwoofer cabinet, I sandwiched two layers of 3mm Bitumen membrane between two layers of 17mm MDF. I had to heat the Bitumen membranes and press them down to ensure it sticks to the MDF.

Here are a few pics

Looking good, would love to come over for a listen when the kits are up & running

:)

Congrats on the build, I was thinking exactly the same, sticking a 15 to 18 mm MDF to 4 to 7 mm real wood panels using bitumen sheets made gooey by heat. I'm keen to know the end result. Request you to post more detailed pics, of better resolution if possible.

@Denom - will ping you when it's all setup :-)

@ Capt. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me when the Bitumen was being applied. I did take a video with my phone, so will try to post that. Yea, the Bitumen does get gooey when heated and sticks nicely to the surface. I will be adding no-rez inside the cabinet along with some Glasswool as per Danny's suggestion. Hoping to get it all done before this weekend.

Captain - I used 6mm thick and 17 mm wide MDF strips. If you use wood panels on top of MDF, would they not expand differently with varying humidity causing problems?

All the stuffing towards the back of the speaker is supported by the brace and doesn't look like it's going anywhere.

I had to apply a bit of fevicol on the bracing for the small patch of stuffing you see in the middle of the speaker as I was worried it won't stay in place.

surrealistix,

the build looks surreal too !!

can i tag along with Denom too.. i would love to hear these speakers. Always had the itch to do something like this but till date havent got around to having the time.

all the best with your build. Waiting for the finished photos..

Great build coming up there. Congrats.

Are you using bitumen sheets on floor-standers as well. Was sandwiching two sheets recommended by Danny?

@mpw - You are welcome to come over for a listen. I will let you know when its ready for a spin.

@josephjohnt - I am only using No Rez and Polyfil with the floor standers.

Danny didn't suggest the use of bitumen sheet sandwiched between MDF, I thought it will be a good idea to use Bitumen damping as I had great results with Dampmat in my car doors! Besides its so wet in Mumbai right now would be really hard to get dry sand!

@Doors666 I went with a small board for the crossover so I have more surface available to apply No-Rez. Also, I didn't want to experiment with the orientation and placement of the inductors so followed the prescribed layout.

The copper wire supplied with the kit is really tough to work with as it's pretty stiff and for some of the points, I had to twist 4 of those wires together! It's all working now, I tested out the crossover and they seem to work correctly.

@Surrealistix - the build is coming up great. Can you explain how the foot of the floor-stander is attached to the rest of the box. Do you have any finishing in mind?
