I'm pretty sure that a PC does everything that boxes like this do, but, even in a media-pc case, it can never look as good. A matter of choosing priorities.

There's a small free weekly mag from Germany coincidentally named HiFi Vision! It has news and reviews with some interactive content but is only Apple compatible. I had written to them for Win8 version and was told they are working on it and it might be available by the year end. If you want to have it in pdf format you need to write to them.
 
For people interested in Active Desktop speakers. Quad just announced a new model 9AS.
Its interesting by design, either hate the looks or love them. Got some good features including a built in 24/192 DAC and a decent price of 600.
Hopefully larger models will follow.
