Maximum DIY contents in the whole rig and never sounded this good….

For each tube about 310 volts at plate and 36 ma. Still a little under biased for me. I use non inductive resistors so looking for the appropriate values.
For me that's a very high cathode voltage. Typically I go for a cathode voltage that is approximately half of the plate voltage. The grid voltage will be calculated from the tube datasheet .

Check data sheets of 6P14P-EV. That’s a beast of a tube and also E84L, rare and expensive…

I play with higher voltages these days, often 500-650 at plates.

In my experience so far, in auto bias, it’s quite a tied up game between the plate voltage and cathode resistor biasing and every iteration yields different results depending on the actual tube in use. And in this respect every single tube differ from the other despite being all nos.

My current amplifier plate voltage is around 545vdc and cathode is at 230vdc. Grid 1 voltage is 200vdc (Direct coupled). So cathode grid is -30vdc. Bias current is 43mA. It's a KT88 IDH used as a pentode. The grid 2 is 533vdc.

There are 100 ways of skinning a cat….

Tube world is no less crazy…. My all builds have different way of doing music. I do measure them and make sure both channels mirror image and then resort to just enjoy the music. Love to listen to what I build.

Next build: EL84 PP IT Coupled with no feedback, 9 wpc. Decided to put my set of massive iron to use. Fully dual monoblock construction under the hood. 6AH4 at driver stage. Nearly complete. Six iron under the hood. Solid state rectified.

Hello sir,
Hope you are safe and well.. on a lighter vein, did you get any 'military grade' components from JF17 wreckage?
I am fine, thanks. Not interested in JF wreckages. They are NOT military grade 😂

Whether you would believe me or not, all iron is built on military grade cores & wires and dig down to 10-15 hz at very low distortion figures.

300B is finally tuned and is blowing my mind everyday with its sonics and prowess.

That's a great pun.

My hand is itching for your work... I have severely constrained (by home minister) to make any further audio purchases. I frequently visit your YouTube page just to lust at the ob sw sound. Looking forward to fresh video recordings.

Share your setup details, particularly your speakers. I will suggest something and HM will not mind at all.

Posting some videos regularly too, these days.

Also working on a chipless R2R dac with transformer Coupled output and a tube gain stage. Lets see how it rolls out.

Also stage is getting set to assemble a MTMW speaker design. All parts in hand.

I have a Atmos HT setup but with dual H-frame SW (GRS 15 inchers built per your guidance during Covid times). The space at home does not allow me a proper stereo setup and hence I am unable pursue proper stereo setup with class a or tube amp.

Space is a constraint for me too
, right now, hence all OB builds and drivers are back in storage. I am enjoying music with a modest 2 way BS which never cease to amaze me with their Big Sound playing through my tube amps.

Some day a larger room will have multiple of speaker setups. Till then a few more small boxed speaker setups in a modest room will make the journey enjoyable.

Here is a link to my youtube channel as some FM requested:

Hey sir,

I am very new to tube world, and I am looking for a 6SN7 vacuum tube for my preamplifier. I have chosen these two brands of tubes (ELECTRO HARMONIX GOLD vs. TUNG SOL ). Can you share your experience of these two tube sounds if you have tried them before?

Thank you so much.

Vishnu,

I have tried a handful of 6SN7 tubes, RCA, Toshibha, Sylavania, GE and some rare chrome topped too but none impressed me as much as the Russian 6SN7 tubes which look very ordinary but sound very airy, extended and smooth with all details I would desire. They are called 6N8S. Try them. I have stopped using any other makes. They even drive my 300B tube amplifier, like no other.

Yes, I have not tried the uber expensive globe variants of 6SN7 by some brands. Don't like to spend that kind of money on tubes. Smart tricks in amp design and component choice brings out more sonic benefits for me.

Today was my first ever experience trying my hands at a chipless R2R DAC which accepts only I2S input. As my initial test experiments always involve spreading everything on a plank of wood, this was no exception.

The very first fire up was damn impressive with all fine details, smooth vocals and a sizeable low end with a dark background. This assembly tooke quite some time and effort but was worth the wait. The dac drove the 300B amps directly with excellent gain. The dac has discrete opamp stages and can be wired for balance outputs too.

Next is output transformer Coupled DAC and a tube gain stage to be added later.

In new production, Tungsol 6SN7 GTB is a good allrounder. So is Linai Elite 6SN7.

For best resolution and transperency, nothing is close to CV181 MK ii PSvane.

For smooth easy going texture and vintage charm, I play NOS Mullards branded 6SN7 smoked glass.

The absolute best, if your amplifier can take is ECC32 Mullards. It's not a standard drop in for 6SN7 and put a huge load with different plate and current voltage

I have all the above and many others, and speaking from personal experience.

HAPPY listening

Thank you for a detailed note. I will consider it. I am not sure if my preamp supports ECC32; I will check .

Completed and fired the transformer output coupled DAC today. The digital section is chipless R2R, NOS, no DSP, dual resistor array dedicated to each channel. OPT are very special, Tamura.

Very distinct tonality and presentation with big low end extension. Excellent signal output too. Drives my 300B amps effortlessly.

Next is adding a tube gain stage to it.

very nice DAC board. do you need lot of gain for this DAC? instead you use tube in the output stage.
