for the price (or slightly more) of a media player like squeezebox touch, it looks like you can get a netbook like acer aspire or hp mini.

would a netbook/computer be any less effective for playing music than a media player?

appreciate the insights.

If you don't plan to use an outboard DAC ever, perhaps an SB Touch might be better (in terms of sound quality) than a NetBook.

If you plan to use an outboard DAC somewhere down the line, I think a NetBook can be a far better music source, in terms of sound quality, 'configurability' and ease of use. You can also play videos on it, to boot.

nope. i plan to get a good dac.

yea looking at the utility of a netbook, sounds like a no brainer.

^^ Actually, unless portability is a requirement, a Music PC could be set up for about the same budget as the Netbooks of the kind mentioned. Especially as the DAC is going to be a separate unit. That would keep the door open on upgrades and expansion of functionality.

yea for the price of a netbook or slightly higher, you can buy a laptop. and for slightly more money you can buy a really loaded one.

reminds of first shopping for a tv in the usa way back in the late 90s. started with a $200 model, then saw the tv next to it was 50 bucks more with better features. but again the one next to this one was even better for another 50 bucks more. and so on ...

i walked out with a tv costing $550!!!
