2009 Samsung HDTVs
This would be an interesting turn of events, but looking back at that AVForum post from earlier this week we noticed -- thanks Megazone -- that the new Samsung HDTVs featuring Internet@Tv Widgets will also include support for just about every video codec we've heard of (full list after the jump). So while some people might be clamoring for widgets on their TV -- we're not -- others just want an easy to playback 1080p MKV files with h.264 inside. Of course this isn't official or anything, but we'll be waiting -- with our hopes up -- until the Samsung press event tomorrow at 5PM EST.

Where did you get the info on SONYs for 2009? Asking, b'cos some SONY 550s currently being sold in the US still show as BE2 currently.

well guys the 2009 sony models are slowly being launched in HK,so from the previous launch dates of HK: india we should see the new sony tvs in june.
Sony BRAVIA - Sonystyle.com.hk
and u can see that the new models are also cheaper then the old ones.
also check out how power efficient the news tvs are for instance
old 32inch W400A consumes a max of 170 watts
the new 32inch W550A consumes only 99watts .

the not so old 40inch W450A consumes 235watts at max
the new 40inch WE5 consumes only 122watts at max.

the not so old 46inch W450A consumes 285watts at max.
the new 46inch WE5 consumes only 140watts at max.

Will the price difference be shared with Indian consumers too? e.g. In India, will the newer SONYs be less priced than the corresponding earlier models?

well yes the new models will be cheaper in india too going by the way of previous releases in india and HK,and we most also note the price difference in india will be more due to the high custome duties in india, of around 35% so if the new tvs is cheaper then old tv by Rs5000 in HK ,then in india the difference will be like approx 6750.

btw samsung india has listed the new 2009 edge lit LED models in their website .
these models don't do any sort of local dimming like the more expensive flagship samsung series 9 or sony X450A which has a even more complex local dimming tri luminous leds.
but these lesse expensive LED tvs are just normal lcds with LED backlight ,so u get more even brightness and less power consumption and LEDs may also improve the contrast.

Saw the advertisments of LED tv , looks awesome, did anyone get a chance to review and get pricing for the same,

Well just did some search on the web, the tv's would start from 1.25 lakh onwards -

Pasting the details below of the write up -

Consumer durables major Samsung India launched a series of energy-efficient LED technology-based televisions in the Indian market, priced between Rs 1.25 lakh and Rs 3.5 lakh.

LED TV use low electricity, contain no mercury and are made of environment-friendly products. It is based on a new technology, which uses LED (light emitting diodes) in the panels as against LCD TVs, which uses normal liquid crystal display technology.

The company also introduced a range of LCD TVs and Plasma TVs, priced in the range of Rs 17,000-1.7 lakh and Rs 59,000-1.35 lakh, respectively.

"We are proud to be contributing to and leading this turning point in TV evolution globally and in India by simultaneously introducing Samsung LED TVs in different markets all over the world," Samsung President and CEO (South-West Asia) Jung Soo Shin said in New Delhi.

"We are expecting our LED TV volumes to be 10 per cent of our flat panel TV volumes this year," Samsung India Deputy Managing Director R Zutshi said. The company is targeting to sell six lakh units of flat panel TVs in India during 2009.

Apart from launching three series of LED TVs in the Indian market, Samsung India also introduced five series of LCD TVs and two series of plasma TVs here. Besides Samsung, firms such as LG, Panasonic and TCL, are also gearing up to introduce LED TVs in the domestic market.

well at 1.25lakh it will have competition from the sony WE5 series, which uses a HE-CCFL or Highly Efficient CCFL.but the samsung LED tv is much slimmer.

and also looks like they have launched the other new lcds tvs like B450,B550,B650.

I stopped by Vijay Sales today in Bombay and they had the 46" B6000 on display (the new Samsung edge LED display).

It is amazingly thin. The display was very "alive", in fact it popped out way too much (it must have been on torch mode). Whites were a bit blue, while I felt that the centre of the screen was slightly duller than the sides.

The 46" B6000 which is listed on the website for 1,50,000 was available for 1,33,000 while the 40" B6000 which is listed for 1,25,000 was available for 1,12,000.

well most stores keep lcds in torch mode or at extreme backlight/edgelight settings, well about the screen being duller at in centre, that can only be seen if u look at still pictures taken from a camera with a long shutter ,at those long exposures it can make even make night sky into day.so in reality in naked eye its immpossible to see that, since the brightness variation is minimal, only plasma fan boys in the US/uk forums make a big issue about nothing, some how only they notice it,at the same time they never see the drawbacks of plasma.
every lcd outhere as a diffuser layer in between the backlight and LCD layer, whose job is to diffuse the light evenly ,but a very very slight variation will be there in pretty much every lcd be it CCFL or LED light, but u just cannot notice it unless u use a camera with high shutter settings.
the future of lcds is LED backlight.
