So my 3 year old (Apr 2022) tv is having panel issues. The screen fades & becomes dark & there are green lights/lines etc.
Have called sony for a service check & assuming the panel needs to be replaced. Has anyone faced the issue? Any ideas of approx cost. This is in Mumbai. Thanks!

If the model is available they will replace it provided you have taken an extended warranty for the same. If model is not available they will suggest you to select any model and provide some discount on it. I had faced this issue.

Oh unfortunately hadn't taken extended warranty. So they do not offer panel replacement?

I had tp get the panel replace on a Sony X80 series 65 inch TV a couple of years back. Had got cracked during moving house.

Sony charged me almost 1 lakh for the replacement.

Was still cheaper than buying a new Sony 65 inch TV. But close enough that you may consider whether to just scrapping the TV and buying a new one.

It's saddening to know panel failure at such a short interval that too from a reputed company ( so to say). My VU TV 4k uhd purchased in May 2015 completed 10 years this month with zero issues till date.

The costs range from 10K to 40K. I have the same TV. My panel had the double image problem with flickering horizontal lines. 10K to 30K is the range quoted by local technicians.

Around 38K was quoted by the Sony service guys. Luckly, Sony itself gave 3 years warranty as Dussehra sale was running at the time of purchase and my repair was done for free.

But I think they used a sub-par panel because on solid colors slight gradient patches are visible on certain parts of the screen. I tested the TV immediately after they returned it and this issue didn't show up in front of the technicians. I didn't complain as I noticed it after a while during a watch session.

Maybe, they are cutting costs on free services, maybe something else. Is panel lottery also an issue in the replacement panels?

If anyone else faced such post-repair issues, please share. Also @deep_blues do share your post-service experience. It's sad that panel lottery affects so many people, hope you get a better replacement.
