I have Sony 65X90K which i purchased in 2022. All of a sudden the TV starting showing horizontal lines at the bottom of the screen and within a few weeks the entire screen looks pale and shows vertical bands and lines. I had not opted for extended warranty at the time of purchase. Sony Authorized Technician visited me and have given me a quote of 75K for replacement of the panel. I am confused as to what i need to do. Its frustrating to see branded and expensive TVs dont last even 3 years and to top it off, the panel costs you over 60% of TV cost as replacement. I guess the warranty for the replacement is 6 months. Would it really be worth it to replace a panel that has not lasted 3 years with a new panel with 6 months warranty and what are the chances of it going Kaput. I am planning to check with local technicians to see what can be done.
Update: After escalation, i received an updated quote of 41K for replacement of panel. They said they will also give 1 year warranty for the panel. When i tried comparing both quotes, i noted that the Panel (Part) mentioned was completely different in both quotes. I assumed it could be the same but represented differently, however, i wanted to confirm this and hence called the service tech. He mentioned that for them to bring down the price, they had to invoice a different panel but will install the original one. I asked then how will the 1 year warranty hold good if the panel part numbers mentioned in the invoice with the one installed wont match. The tech assured me that they will honor it without issues which i am skeptical. I asked if the original part number could be billed at the discounted rate, which was denied. If i need the discount, the invoice will carry a different part number. I know they must be trying to help me, but this is way beyond my risk appetite. So now planning to buy a new TV. Key aspect that i am looking for is 1. QLED mini or QNED mini LED display, 2. VRR, ALLM, 144/120 refresh rates for my PS5, 3. Google or WebOS for peace of mind, 4. As i am used to the 65" size i cant go for any lesser. 5. Not specific on brands. I used Ai to look into user reviews / feedback in forums to understand know issues on TVs.
1. 75" TCL - C755 - The spec is good. Has all the features. Was introduced in 2023. No known panel issues. 2 year manufacturing warranty and can be extended upto 2 more years. Available in stock at 1.29L and 1 year extended warranty is complementary and 2nd year can be purchased with discount, making it 4 years of hassle free ownership.
2. 75" LG88T6A - Spec closer to C755, with not much user reviews. Available at 1.6.
3. 75" Hisense - U7Q - Available at 99,000. Not keen on this though.
I wanted to check if OLED was any option but then a 65" C4 is 2.15L currently. Dont want to go back to Sony but i just love the Picture Quality and the brand name weightage it carries. Any Comments or opinions in welcome
