Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/

Well.. After reading alll the post.. I am quite confused if I should really pay extra for TS+HD or DISH HD

Currntly I am using DISH DTH with LG 2010 PLASMA which is 720P... and quality is quite fine....
If you upgrade to Dish HD, you will DEFINITELY gain on upscaling on the Zenega box for the same SD channels you currently watch as they certain look much better through HDMI on Dish HD. If you have an AVR, you could connect an optical Audio or HDMI cable to the AVR to get better and more accurate stereo sound. I am not sure when will Dish TV start DD5.1.

TS+HD has other benefits like dual recording (its like having 2 connections and 2 PVRs), better customer service, DD5.1 (ONLY if you have an AVR) on HD channels. However SD channels are definitely a downgrade from your current Dish SD connection (as of now).

Thank you so much..

I see Firmware upgrade on DISH DTH ( NON HD) which lets me select sound output as Stereo Vs Surround... I do see little chanage when I switch between.

Costing seems to be quite high for DISH HD (Device+HD package)... where as price for device is low in TS+PVR but high for over all package....

Anyone happen to find how to transfer recorded data from PVR to any other Storage device....

Easiest method would be to connect a HD recorder to the component or HDMI outputs and then record it to other storage device. I do not think there is any known method of getting the data out to another disk and then decoding the same.

i got one in pune in one day .its awosome.just one question what was the plus usage fee
None, its free like in regular TS+ (that threat of Rs.30 was just a marketing gimmick to make the customer buy in hurry).

HDMI capable recorders used to decode HDCP is priced prohibitively, so only option left is component which should be good enough.

Guys,

My new TS HD plus has started freezing the picture. Only way to come out of this, is to switch it off/on again. Has anyone faced this problem??

Thanks.

I face random remote irresponsiveness issues and have to reboot the box once in few days (otherwise its on or standby 24x7). I really need TS to come with a firmware upgrade to:

1. Stop HDD when not in use
2. Put the box in "Deep Sleep" as they market "Smart Standby" feature which is only a REDUCED power state from 36 to 22 watts or so. Not good for a device to consume so much power during standby.

Hi Guys
I wanted to know if Tata Sky has charged you 100 INR for a piece of equipment which they say is necessary for recording

I have just installed Tata Sky + HD and need to know.
They Deducted 100 INR from my account.

Thanks

Hi Guys
Here is the screenshot attached.
Also they are deducting 5 or 6 INR everytime they activate any package.
I activated Free Punjabi and hindi pack and my account was debited.

Prankey,

Thanks. Mine is still freezes, trying getting it replaced.

For getting the 5.1 sound on HD channels, I bought a coax cable to connect my AVR to STB. However, when I am having the following setup

STB to AVR (HDMI + coax), then AVR to TV (HDMI),

the AVR is not outputting the 5.1 channel sound. In the panel it still shows PCM. I have changed the audio setting for that particular HDMI connection to coax in the AVR menu.

Now I tried the following setup

STB to TV (HDMI)
STB to AVR (coax)

now the AVR shows DD5.1, however the problem in this setup is that I am getting the sound from TV speakers also and I have to mute that. Generally with the first setup I could setup AVR to provide the sound and stop the audio signal to TV. In the standby mode, it will pass both Audio and Video to TV.

Do I need to make some more setting changes for this to work.

STB to AVR (HDMI + coax), then AVR to TV (HDMI),

The other reason to have this setup is because I have BDP also connected to AVR and the single HDMI connection goes into TV so I don't need to fickle with too many remotes at the time if I am switching between, SD/HD channels, BDP etc.

OR IS THIS TIME FOR A UNIVERSAL REMOTE ??

Your AVR should allow you to input video from HDMI and Audio from a coax cable and then pass the video through its HDMI output to your TV minus the audio.I do not know about your particular AVR or if it supports this feature, but I do remember that the Onkyo 608 AVR had a feature where you could assign video from a HDMI input and audio from a digital coax input. Maybe some Onkyo guru can help here. A read through the manual may also help.

On my Denon AVR, i use the HDMI + Coax output and I get DD 5.1 output for the HD channels. To do this on the Denon is a 2 step process. First assign appropriate HDMI, Coax/Optical & Analog connections to a given input of the AVR. Then one needs to instruct the AVR to use the digital input for audio. The video input on my Denon AVR does not have multiple options.

A programmable remote like the Logitech Harmony ones can do what you want, but then it can cause problems with state change when you are looking at programming different activities. So you need to be careful with that.

We should collectively ask this question to TS on when are they going to fix this irritating issue of PCM audio sent through HDMI! People have started thinking of going for an expensive universal remote for this silly issue. Will TS reimburse them for the cost of such remote and compensate for the discomfort they are causing by not fixing this issue? Hope they read this and work towards fixing (it might be a rather quick fix of a programming glitch).

This is not an issue with the set top box as I have a similar connection and I can control my AVR to define that the input video is through HDMI while input audio is via coax while I do have a bdp which is connected via another HDMI.

If there is no such setting, check by replacing the HDMI connection from STB to AVR with a component video (RGB) connection so that it inputs pure video and let the coax handle the 5.1 audio and see if the problem is solved.

The AVR btw has an option of putting HDMI audio off.

If you are getting sound from the TV speakers, there is possibly another connection from STB to TV (like a composite cable (red/white/yellow).

Check and let know.

I'm already in communication with the tech team of tatasky for geting the DD5.1 channel sound through HDMI. Let see how long it take them to resolve this. I'd suggest everybody to raise complain for this same as their HD boxes (without recoding) is perfeclty giving DD5.1 sound through HDMI.
