Technics Turntable Owners Club

Hello Gurus, In India, it appears the Revolver club is the only retailer selling Technics TT. With its reputation and my past experience, I am a bit wary. Do you all still think that it is safe to buy from RC? Looking at GR2 (any alternative?). Else I am also open to importing the TT. Would be grateful for any source to import. thanks!

I don't have any experience with revolver club but I can vouch for buying abroad. Getting gear shipped into India these days is a very expensive proposition, which can increase your overall spend by roughly 50%. The best option would be to have a willing friend bring your gear along, when travelling to India.

Purchasing from overseas and sending items to India is not advisable right now. You might want to look into the Denon DP-3000NE or the Rega 6; Hifimart is handling Rega products.

When I was shopping for a GR2 in October last year, I got in touch with TRC to inquire if they had it in stock. They said it would take two weeks before fresh units came in.
In mid November, I got a call from TRC informing me that the ‘tables had arrived. However, I had already imported one from Germany in the meantime.
I would recommend checking in with TRC first. If they have ready stock, that would likely be the easiest purchase option.

There was downright eye popping discount on the DP3000 recently - 2L! Worth checking if that’s still available and if so, a steal over the GR2 IMO.

Eye candy for Technics DD fans:

One of the questions I’m asked most often is whether it makes more sense to buy an old/used/vintage Technics direct‑drive turntable or a new one. My general recommendation is to buy new, provided you have access to the appropriate retail channels in India or abroad (including online), and the budget to support it.

That said, used units can also perform extremely well. Their suitability, however, depends heavily on factors such as prior usage and ownership history, current mechanical and electronic condition (including stock configuration versus modifications), the quality of any repairs or restoration work carried out (ideally using OEM parts) and overall cosmetic condition.

PS: I have no affiliation with SkyFi Audio. I’m sharing this purely for informational purposes, as the videos are well produced and presented.

Hi Reuben’s. GM. I appreciate your fondness for these legendary tts. It was on my wish list for a long time but many factors prevented the acquisition! Sigh. However in spite of hearing loss and ‘no more acquisitions’ rule by the LOH, this is still on my wish list. What I would like to know is whether these would be suitable for moving iron carts, Ortofon OM series( some models come fitted with the newer Ortofon Red and above), Nagaoaka MMs and Excel MM cartridges. Also how is the surface noise , particularly on old Bollywood LPs which have been played on my ceramic tts. Would like your personal experience, as this would be a more accurate assessment. Thanks
Hi, i own 2 SL1200's (one is the MK3 and the other is the GR). I have used multiple carts on them including the Ortofon Blue and Nagaoka MP200. The MP200 is a great match, i found it far superior than the Ortofon Blue.

I bought a GR from Revolver club around 2 years back. It might be better to get it from them as importing one unit will probably work out more expensive.
