Tidal in india?

The TIDAL music discovery algorithm works on your listening history. If you click on any of the links I have shared earlier it will automatically start auto suggesting all the Bollywood movies and playlists to your Home feed. As others have mentioned the Search function is very poor and sometimes will not return any results.

One of the best ways to get results is to first play a few albums and then scroll down to see the auto suggestions as well. With this you can very quickly build a playlist with all the songs you like. The more you do this the better the algorithm gets at suggesting songs based on your listening history.

Hope this helps.

I tried Tidal (US) account for couple of months but cancelled it mainly because of limited MQA albums. Also heard that amazon has already launched HD version of prime music in US.. so hoping of a release in India in near future. I guess prime music HD would be a better integration in a stereo system and hell lot cheaper than Tidal.

When you say limited MQA albums, do you mean limited MQA versions of Indian albums? That’s true. Most of the Indian albums are in FLAC which is actually a better format (my preference over MQA even when both versions are available) if your DAC is not MQA enabled. As for Prime Music, I doubt there HD quality will be even comparable to tidal FLAC - they may at the most catch up with the resolution and quality gap with Apple Music and Spotify Premium. For sure Amazon’s Prime Music (as well as Prime Movies) is a great VFM option, but is perhaps the poorest sound (or picture in case of Movies) quality wise in comparison with other options.

Thnx. I also subscribed today using info from this thread. Was able to login into cxn v2 using old app. Stream magic app login do not complete for me.

Try again. It works perfectly for me with my CXN V2. More stable and better UI (though far from what it needs to be) than the old app (CA Connect). Or write to the Cambridge support for help. They are responsive. Or PM me and we could do a telephone call and attempt solving it.

Yes it does have lots of Indian music collections but as Nikhil pointed out you need to search with proper keywords. And its search engine is pathetic and they need to learn from Spotify or even Gaana or Saavn.

True. But it seems the Indian music library depends on which country you are subscribed from. I see a huge Indian collection in the US subscription. Those subscribing from Turkey seem to say that they don’t find much Indian content in theirs.

If you use Tidal Desktop app to access Tidal then you will get Master quality aunthincate (MQA) version of albums which are certainly sounds better than HiFi FLAC version. Desktop Tidal app itself decode MQA and send data to Integreated amplifier/AV receiver.

Not quite. Tidal MQA has three folds, of which only the first is unfolded by the Tidal desktop app. The rest two can only be decoded by a MQA enables DAC/streamer (check if your Marantz AVR’s DAC is). What you are otherwise listening is not the true MQA quality. I don’t have MQA enabled DAC in my CXN V2 streamer. And I much rather prefer the quality of the FLAC (Hifi) version than the incompletely unfolded MQA version. The former sounds much more organic and nuanced/textured sound to me.

Tons of Bollywood on TIDAL. You just need to search for it.

For high quality Bollywood I don't think there is a better source online.

I should have clarified.. not much of MQA albums for Bollywood (data as of last year February time frame).. so if in case someone is inclined towards more of regional music, though they would have access to the regional album, they might not necessarily MQA. So in terms of VFM folks would be better off with Spotify/Prime Music.

That is correct Sachin.. I should have clarified in my post :)

Hi,

On a similar note, has anyone tried Qobuz in India?

What has been the experience thus far?

to create an account - is a VPN required? does it then work for regular listening without a VPN?

sound quality vs Tidal Hifi (i.e. if you compare 44.1/16 of the same recording, on both services)

I tried multiple times to open an account but its blocked. An auto message pops up that it is not available here !

You need to use a vpn to create an account. Thereafter you may login without vpn. Try Hola vpn extension in Chrome or app in your phone.
Is paid subscription needed for VPN to work? I'm unable to get the VPN work on my phone.

With Hola, you have to try a few times till you have connected via the VPN.

When you see, Did it work & Report a problem, click No fix it, if Hola has not connected. Hola will reattempt to connect, keep at it till you have connected.

It's a free VPN service, please have appropriate expectations.

I tried with US vpn and started a free trial using paypal. When clicked on claim offer in https://try.tidal.com/spring it redirects to the login page with a message saying that offer is no longer valid.
@sunand777 Did you try something different to get it?
Did you use the Tidal login created using US VPN? First I tried my european login for the same page, I got the same message as you got, Then I restarted from "Claim Offer" and used my US login. It worked with my credit card though not with PayPal. Try using credit card instead.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
