Hi PS,

How does the 1977 Polydor repress sound? AFAIK they were from the 2nd generation tapes as the original master tape went missing immediately after the first release in 1969. It was discovered in a vault in 2003 and was used for their 40th Ann and later releases. Hence was curious how the releases in between sounded.

Bhaskar

Yes you are right. All subsequent vinyl reissues in the 70s were done using the so called 'second generation second copy'. Sound wise, this album is not the best Crimson album for sure. I have the 40th anniversary CD+DVD reissue which sounds slightly better than this vinyl reissue (at least there are certain parts in 21st Century Schizoid Man that sound more lively on the CD). But this 1977 repress is excellent in terms of dynamic range. The last 4 tracks sound phenomenal. It's only the opening track that sounds slightly off in certain parts (compared to the CD).

Thanks for your opinion. Recently I heard the 2010 re issue, UK pressing on Pink Label. It's numbered KCLP1. The cover mentions that it's from 1969 original stereo mix. I must say I was very impressed by the reproduction. The sound was awesome, specially the title song.

I think your Polydor label Court is a German pressing which has quite a followers.
