Hi friends,

Today I took audition of following 32 in LCD sets-

1.Panasonic 32LX700 & 32LE8
2.Samsung 32A550
3.Sharp LC32A33 & A53(100 Hz)
4.Onida 32in Xaria (Faroudja DCDi proc)

I checked both side by side new 8 series has better colours than 7 series.
Response time is same -6ms.
Samy everybody knows.
Sharp is same as pany LE8 in features.
Onida newest with 8 ms

1.SD performance- To me I found Sharp> Onida> Pany> sam (with Big TV)
(Better >>> average)

Surprisingly sharp pictures were closer to CRT watching from 10ft.
Onida was next with sharp SD performance.Rest of to were average.

2.HD performance- Well Pany> Sharp=Sam (Onida HDMI por was non
working)

3.Pany has better in colours, sharpness, but when it comes to 3D effect
then Sam> Sharp> Pany

4.Black levels- Pany is master(8series) I checked with Black & White video.
Sharp & Sam showed hair colour greyish, but Pany 8 showed perfect black.
I observed same with Dolphin HD also.Pany showed Black Dolphin and
others greyish.

5.Panal- Pany is the only with uniformity.
i.e. I switched to news ch. showing taza khabar at bottom.
Lines Headlines moving at bottom frm Rt to Lt.-
*In sharp lines were unreadable even in 100hz model.
also lines were taller at sides of screen as smaller in middle.

*In sam line size was perfect but not clear.

*Pany 8 showed better lines, accurate size from Rt to Lt.
Judder was very less.
Pany 700(100HZ) showed same as 8, but improoved on moving
lines.i.e perfect size, sharpness of lines close to CRT.

I saw Onida with same models in different showroom so don"t
know abt headline review.

I thing it may be helpful.

Pls.post your comments.

Well done Spirovious ! All great TVs indeed, but what are you going to watch mostly is really important, SD/DVD/Games ? IMO for SD viewing Panasonic is best and for DVD playback too.

I find from your above post, Panasonic ticking most of the boxes. My vote for Panasonic.:)

Thanks,

But when I checked menu of LX700.I cld not get Backlight option. How did you
get it?any special setting?presets?

My decision is pending between 700 & 800.

Very useful post. I think it boils down to price. If there is a 10% or more difference between Lx800 and 700, go for the 700. You will get better sound and features like PIP.

update-

Pany LE8 - 31000
700 - 41000
800 - 42000

Shap A33 -30000
A53 - 58000

Colours & dark levels are much better on 800 than 700,then only for sound
is 700 better than 800?(contrast ratio better in 800.)

I feel LCD is for good display and sound with HT.

Any other technical reason?

I could never audition the LX800 and 700 side-by-side. If you find a significant difference in PQ and only 1k difference in pricing, I feel you should go for 800. SQ can always be improved using external audio, but the PQ can be never improved once you are stuck with a model. Go ahead and get that 800. You will be as happy as me.

Excellent work spirovious, the post is informative and detailed,

It clearly shows the dominance of Panny in the 32' lcd screens, my vote will be for Panny too

Hi Spiro,
Which TV did you finally choose and what was the price you paid/ which shop (address/contact) did you get it from? And how do you feel abt your purchase now?

I finalised on Pan LE-8 for Rs.30k.
Colours are exellent.Black looks black.Response time & movements are well handled.Dont ask SQ.
DVD playbackk very good with composite.Component improved little further.
Didnt try HDMI as cable was not free with DVDp.

did you buy it from jd? or from any other shop in banglr?

sorry for this... but where is this shop (address) in bangalore?

Murali,

I think Vijay Sales is in Mumbai and not Bangalore. For your 32" LCD check out electronic malls/stores like Reliance Digital, E-Zone, Croma, etc. I picked all 3 of my Panasonics at Reliance Digital. You get good finance schemes too at 0% EMI for 6-8 months or so.

Coming to models - Check out Panasonic VIERA TX-32LX80, its got great PQ. Other contenders are Sharp and Philips. Philips though is more expensive and while Sharp is on par with Panasonic in terms of cost and also slightly ahead in terms of PQ I am not too sure about their after sales service. That's why I went with the Panasonic VIERA TX-32LX80. Its really VFM and I got it for 35K in Hyderabad, but it should be cheaper in Bangalore.

Not sure about the Sharp model number, but it was Sharp Aquos that I saw in comparison to the Panasonic and they have pretty good reviews on the web too. I will not say the Sharp was leagues ahead of the Panasonic, but to my eyes at least it was delivering more natural colors than the Panasonic and both were on standard factory settings.

I was impressed by SD of Sharp but when checked panal is was uneven.

Now time to update the POST-

Today saw few 32in LCDs
Pan Lx80,800 (both)
Sam series 5 (newone)
Sony 500series(new 1080p V550)
Sharp cheery coloured

1.To begin with HD clips-
usually looks good, but whats special colour Ballance & Clarity.
As usual Pan looked great, sharpness & accurate.

Sam S5 equally good, but with less clarity than Pany80. I found Sam uses Dark panal to get accurate Blacks.the pic appeared good, but due to dark panal sand colour from beach clip appeared darker than actual.

To my surprised Sony S500 looked natural & partially better than Pany800.
(adder pls note this, you are right,BE3 is working better than Pany)

Sharp was good to,I can rate equal to LX80 & colours little fade(not that much though)

LG scarlet 2 was better too with little reddish appearance.

2.SD/ DTH-

To my surprise Sony was no 1 here doing good upscaling .9x,animalP looked gr8

Next & not far behind was Pan LX80 similar result & colours little less accurate in LX800.

Sam was doing good too, colours good with Black levels.Edges were not as sharp as Sony & Pany.

Sharp did balanced, but edges little soft.

LG does good & clear with SD too.

3.News ch-

This is the best way to judge Panals uniformity.

Sony was good, but little judders/jerks in headlines running at Bottom.
Letters were not sharp & judderfree, but panal was uniform.

Sam again similar to Sony, but little easy to follow.

Best done with Pany LX800 with clear letters at bottom ,but panal wasnt uniform with letters broad at sides & appeared thinner in centre.

LG scarlet2 was doing better job with 100HZ with clean, uniform panal.

Sharp was OK too.
(PanyLX700 was uniform, but less clear with letters when I compared last year)

Other good & cheap models were VU 32in & Videocon32.(arround 25k)

Final thoghts-
No1 can be Sony ,then Pany, then Sam-Sharp equal.LG can be little behind but panal & features wise equal to Sam.

With Sony LCD you can never go wrong.
If you have the budget, simply go for it.
