Amp enclosures/chasis cabinets

I want one of this for my MyRef build! Is the screw hex head or normal straight or philips?

which screw?

the screw that holds the shaft together?

its a Unbreko regular grub screw ( it has NO head and gets completely hidden inside the knob!) - i hate screws that you can see - YUCK
Actaully i always use two screws not one

there are two screws n these knobs too
15degrees apart
its just that you cant see the other one from this angle

Happy New year to all

Heres probably my last post of the year

the cabs i was working on got assembled at last

Magma - Great looking cabinets! The one on the right has a front panel that looks just like the 8Audio cabinet that Audiodoc and I have used previously, but even better black anodized finish instead of the silver aluminium finish of the 8Audio case. The front profile milling looks first-class.

Few suggestions:

1) One issue with the 8Audio cabinets is that the edges were sharp and had to be chamfered slightly to reduce the risk of finger cuts and other injuries. If it's not already taken care off, could you please dress/chamfer the edges before anodizing?

2) The front panel screws may (optionally) be hex-headed Allen bolts in grey high-carbon steel - it gives an industro-tech appearance to the aesthetics.

3) Please include standardized pre-punched cutouts for: IEC mains connector, on/off switch, mains fuse holder, 4x speaker binding posts and maybe 2x to 6x RCA connectors, on the rear panel.

hi linux
thanks for the encouragement- much appreciated
the design looks similar since i was actaully inspired from that 8 audio cab
Thanks to Sachu888 for introducing me to them

however the cab is not really as good as it looks ( at least im still not satisfied)
photos are misleading! :D

theres a reason for the sharp edges
The edges are sharp since it is cheaper to do straight cuts on the faceplate - Both 8 audio and i have realized that
To get perfect rounded edges would entail profile milling on the sides ( which we currently have not done to reduce costs)

of course a manual rounding/dressing is possible

2) The front panel screws may (optionally) be hex-headed Allen bolts in grey high-carbon steel - it gives an industro-tech appearance to the aesthetics.

Hex head allen screws were not used since self tapping screws were needed since the side profile accepts self tapping screws
Self tapping screws dont come in hex heads

Though it is probably possible to first thread the side profile so hex headed screws can work
But obviously that again increases labour/my headache (and so ....cost)

Ahh
this is where i cannot compete with the ready made amp sellers
The reason is that these guys sell/manufacture cabinets in bulk.
So investing in Punching dies is justified
For them, punching holes on the rear plate is just one operation
- load onto power press - punch all holes in one stroke- done!

i cannot invest in punch dies since it would not be feasible for such small qtys
i need to drill/mill each hole seperately

The above is also the reason why i cannot make cabs really cheap

Also my cabs are used by enthusiasts for differnt things
everyone wants a differnt layout and cutouts/holes for differnt connectors - so i figured i might as well let the job be manual and do only whats required by the end user when he orders

Thanks for the input and advice :)

Stay tuned
on tuesday i will probably have a dummy faceplate ready with a superb high quality taiwanese SS push button switch integrated with a Blue LED light ring

looks fantastic - but the switch ive procured is not cheap

i will be trying to get some cheaper versions in one of my shipments from PRC soon though

Hi Magma,

The cabinet is very well done. A quick question on the cabinet spikes, if there is only one towards the back, will it affect stability when we mount a heavy r-core or toroid transformer in a side?

Thanks

nope
my dac and trafo is completely on one side
the other side has a solid AL rod which is machined to pass route the mains cable

here are some pics i had promised
Theyre not very clear - hope you get the idea

Magma, nice effort.
Just my personal opinion, that switch doesnt suit the enclosure, something wrong with the overall look, dont know what is wrong, the size wrt the enclosure size or location or something else. Probably that switch will look good in a brushed aluminium (silver finish) with a wider chassis. In this, IMO, a round rocker switch with an led will be better looking than the SS push button.

smaller cab ( the dual tone one ) is for sale
- cant fit my PD into it - (forgot to take into account the height of the wooden base)

will drill the rca/misc holes as reqd

internal height is 48mm though - depth and width is about 9 inches internal

price - best offer by PM

i am now accepting pre orders for
1. the above posted PASS B1 buffer amp cab
2. Bare bones cab for other projects

internal size 12inches wide*10inches deep*65mm high
6mm base and front plate
15mm wide aluminium extrusions side panels and seperater ( to isolate PSU stage from the PASS PCB etc)
will come with 3 spiked feet and a taiwanese fused IEC socket with switch ( rear)
(fuse not included)
1 solid aluminuium volume control knob

3mm led hole drilled in front panel

PASS B1 cab
:
Over the above described
it will come with all holes drilled for phono stage,IP selector board,PASS B1 board,LDR pcb, PSU pcbs - as dimensioned by omishra in the pass B1 thread
rear panel will have 9.6mm holes drilled for RCA
1 pair Op's
4 pair Ip's ( optional 2 pair Ip's instead of 4 can also be provided for those who do not need 4)
front panel with 3mm led hole, volume contro lknob
and a hole for Ip selector switch/knob dia 5mm ( Now this will just be a hole because i dont know what you guys want to do - some may want just a toggle switch - some may want a knob )

bare bones cab
NO PCB mounting holes or seperater holes ( though the seperator will be provided)
Face plate - Blank - NO holes
Rear plate - only with fused IEC socket and switch

i have not provided holes for RCA since i dont know where everyone wants it
i cannot drill seperate dimensioned holes for every differnt person
if there is a consensus on the holes then these can be drilled - same for all

Price for both cabs - SAME
reason - i am not charging for drilling holes

Though i normally brush finish and anodize the entire cab
i suggest that i do this for the whole cab - BUT polyurethane coat the FRONT panel
(this is only if i dont like the final result of anodise on my first test cab)
PU coat is very similar to automotive paint
note : anodizing in India is not as good as you see in Chinese items (though its not all that bad either - PU coat will look similar to what OM has done )

Price : 3100 rs
Note : i have not calculated profits in this - i just hope my estimate doesnt however have me loosing money

A numbered list of intrested parties will be made
deposits will have to bemade as follows
3101
3102
3103

basically the third person in the list will pay 3 rs more for the cab than the first
this allows me to easily understand whose made payment
(i hope you do not mind paying the extra 2 rs for my convenience)
