Hi Guys,

Good to see the Initiative. Thanks Sachin and others for the efforts.
I can get my Oppo BDP-93, if any of you guys want to check it out.
Let me know if anyone is interested.
Its better if we have TV provided by Hotel mgmt, if its possible.
I will also update the excel sheet.

Thanks once again guys, lookign forward to meet you all.

@sajjad4joy - Talking to the banquet manager yesterday, he indicated that they will be unable to provide a TV, but for additional cost they can provide a proj. Anyways from what I see, a lot of DAC's are going to be in the meet, so why dont you bring your Oppo along and we can use it as a transport and compare the internal DAC to stand alone DACS as well.
Cheers,
Sid

Hey you guys, hope you have a great time. Too bad I can't make it. BTW, have you guys decided how exactly to go about; I mean the exact agenda. I have attended two HFV meets in Chennai and one in Bangalore.

With due respect to the organisers of all these meets for putting their hearts and souls in these meets, I would consider that the Bangalore meet to be the most well thought out, most meticulously planned and superbly organised meet where people actually gained real insight into where exactly does the additional dough do as you go up the budget ladder and went back with their choices and opinions.

I'm pretty sure organisers in Hyd meet are putting equal hard work but there has to be some real gains in participating in such meets; networking IMHO is incidental.

I'm voicing my humble opinion as my (trivial) contribution since this is being organised in my beloved hometown. Hope all of you would come out of the event with flying colours.

Hi Rajesh,

Thanks for the input, yes we do have some agenda in mind , but so far focus was around getting the logistics sorted. We are watching the mumbai meet thread and Santy and those guys are doing some good work on planning for the meet, hope to pick some of that. Also Sameer and Sid have some good ideas for the agenda.

But please do share any more thoughts you have. Appreciate it.

Yes realized that you would not make it :(, but the majority was for 11th. Anyway have a great time at the bangalore meet.

cheers
sachin

Hi Sachin,

Thank you for taking my opinion in a positive spirit. Santhosh is out of country and may not be in touch. Do take some inputs from George and Raghumailbox.

One of the most important difference in Bangalore meet which I liked is, showcasing equipments at different price points. They had asked the participants what they would like to listen and made a demo disc which was used to do a A-B-C of these equipments.

Though I've not been able to interact with everyone there to find out exactly what they have experienced, I've noted that people are convinced as to how systems sound at different price points.

I'm not suggesting that you should adapt what I suggested but as I said, just my (trivial) contribution.:)

IMO, we need to prepare a list of instruments with respect to the participants , i mean a list which will show us who is getting what,

That way we will have a clear idea about expected instruments.

Secondly as Sachin suggested we can look for sponsors and can provide them some space to display their product, this weekend i will try to reach few of them and check if they are interested.

Thanks Rajesh. Good pointers and will talk to George and others.

Tanoj.

We have the sheet with the details , this is the gear which members are going to get to the meet.

Update your details

I see you have updated too, but please source/amp/speakers etc. that you can get for the meet.

Also guys its good time to update your favourite demo tracks so we can get a good combination of music for the tests as Rajesh suggested.

Hi friends

There are some more folks who have confirmed and paid. Will update soon.

Also sameer I think met wth some members today to final the agenda. Sameer - any updates from that ? And sorry I am in Mumbai this weekend, could not join you.

Again I request rest of the people who have not confirmed to do so. Come on guys this is going to be fun !

Let us meet on Monday evening after office hours somewhere in Jubilee Hills.
We need participant's equipment details to plan things.Hope we get few more confirmations by Sunday evening.

I think there are 10 confirmations so far.

We need more contributions on amplification front. ( We have only NAD & ROTEL )

Cheers

Guys - With one week to go for the meet and about 10 confirmations - hopefully more to go, some of my humble suggestions are:
1. We divide the setups into: High, Medium, entry level setups
2. classify the equipment as such - sameer's concern is valid on amps., and if we agree to the classification I will bring along the Belcanto pre3 and s300 amp. which has great synergy with the B & W.
3. With the above equipment, and an appropriate source which I am still deciding on, I can demo. a fringe hi- fi or solid mid fi system.
4. similar to what I suggested above we can classify the other equipment and pair them with the participants own components or components of the same classification, price range etc. into one of the three that I suggested in pt. 1.
5. We use common tracks recommended by participants, burnt onto a cd, or flac files and use these to audition all systems in these classes, evaluate them with personal impressions and hopefully learn what a higher end system can and cannot do and understand the law of diminishing returns.
This, I believe will lead to a more enjoyable and educational meet rather than trying to swap cables and mix and match components which can cause loss of time as well as discord due to absence of synergy between components.
Kindly let me have your views on this approach, and suggest audition tracks.
Cheers,
Sid

Sid, this looks perfect. Lets work on finalizing. I can setup a live meeting Tuesday evening, I think good way to get inputs from more people.

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
