Lets talk about blurays--movies/ scenes/audio/pq /repeat values

Though I have taken small auditions of Blu-Ray before, over the last few day and thanks to Srinisundar, I was able to sit relaxed and watch all the three Blu-Ray versions of the Bourne series. I used my son's Sharp BR equipment - a BD-HP20 player and the Sharp Aquos LC-46D85UN 46 inch LCD display. There was no HT system.

For those sitting on the wall. shifting to a Blu-Ray system makes tremendous sense.

Even from just a couple of feet away, there were no noise on the screen and motion was extremely smooth. As much as the images are superb, what I liked best about the clarity of sound. In Bourne Identity, Jason goes into a station to hide his bag, and there is a large display that displays the trains arrival and departure system. This is the system where the letters are rotated mechanically. Even at very low volumes, I could hear the tumblers turning rapidly as the information was being updated. This makes you feel you are standing with Jason in the station. Though I have seen these movies many times before, these BDs bought a new sense to watching. For example, when Jason and Marie are fleeing from the CIA in a small Mini, in BD, you can clearly see some depth within the car and get a measure of Jason sitting 'behind' Marie with relation to the camera.

A good BD player and a full HD TV does make immense sense.

Cheers

Hmmmmm.......not bad, the BLURAY heat is slowly catching up to all the HiFiVisioner's.:eek:hyeah:

ENJOY!!!!!

Sea Monsters 3-D Blu-ray (IMAX) (2007)

bought from virgin stores , dubai
multi region , 2D / 3D

Though its short abt 45 mins , its spectacular and has amazing 3D effects ,definetly worth adding on to the Bluray collection , This cud be THE disc for the ultimate 3D demo @ home

there are several scenes which will really make u duck for cover as the sea monsters come right out of the screen, the quality of the 3D glasses supplied is low, but the effects are superb

hi sid

yes both transformers 2 and Terminator salvation are in DTS HD MA and the audio sampling frequency is 48khz
both of them have terrific SQ

i dont think u shuid worry abt the numbers, just enjoy the discs

Hi Subhash,

Sorry I missed this thread. I did some googling and found that PS3 actually cannot go beyond then 48K Audio Sampling. It will downsample any thing above than 48k to 48K.
Even on 48K the audio is superb.:yahoo:

But as per this wiki- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DTS-HD_Master_Audio The sampling should be atleast 96K. Is it possible that BD are not having sound as it should be due to space constraints or it is with indian BDs only?

Any comment.

Sid.

It is possible that your PS3 may have down sampled Transformers and Terminator. Play them again, and see of you can do something with the settings on the PS3. If there is no improvement, then it is possible that both movies have been recorded at low sampling rates. The web site http://www.hifivision.com/newreply.php?do=newreply&p=98770 does say that the SQ of both movies is 'fantastic', so I am not sure what is happening.

Also check the carton, where they would have mentioned the specifications.

Cheers

Hi Venkat,

I'm not able to open this link. Can you please post it again?

Sid.

hi sid , not yet come across any BD with 96khz sampling ,as i have a mixd collection of BDs from both indian releases and US, all the BDS i have, exhibit 48khz sampling when chkd , am getting a pack of 10 BDs from US soon, will chk those out

i dont think it cud be a issue with indian released BDs as most of the hollywood BDs are direct imports ,only marketed in india by different companies with thier names, so i doubt there cud be any compromise on quality

any comments from others ??

I had One question. i see a lot of blu ray movies in rapidshare.
Resolution 1280x532 and AC3 6ch .@384 kbps
What do u mean by this in simple lay man's words ?
if the resolution is 1280*532, how will the display be on a 40 inch full hd tv ?
how will be the PQ and AQ compared to original blu ray ?
I am asking this question because i am planning to buy a 40 inch full hd TV.
I am not sure if these movies are worth watching in the TV or should i buy original blu ray disc

I am in to some Heavy Downloading, and initially I also used to think that BR PQ is way beyong ANY rips but trust me I also have an 47" LCD and the rips you are talking about "1280x532 and AC3 6ch .@384 kbps" are my fav. Specially AsCo rips. It very important how ones rips a BR, a good ripping brings very admirable PQ over an LCD that to on a 47". The resaon I have not posted much on this thread is the same. I have been busy watching rips rather than BR though I took great pains to get my BRp and make it Region Free as well. These rips look fabulous on my LCD, bright, vibrant colors and with proper black levels.
Now coming to the AQ, believe me unless you have a very hi end HT, much in the lines of DALI, Missions, USHERS etc..... you would not much make out the difference between AC3 (DTS) or TureHD, specially on an HTiB, the audio quality by these rips are amazing, atleast I can vouce for my HTiB
Check out a post I made at the end about my experience with "Public Enemies"
Since then I hardly miss a BR, unless I am very very particular about a movie which HAS to be seen on a BR, movies which have a massive scale (Matrix Trilogy, LOTR, Transformers....etc), I usualy go with rips.
One more thing to note as well is the Player. I am using WDTV for playing these rips, and WD is supposed to better in A/V Quality than other media players available, dispite of lacking other features.
Go ahead and buy that 40' LCD, I got LG and I am throughly stisfied, you wont regrette playing the HD Rips on it.

Arundathi BD

got this one today from US after a long wait, watched a couple of scenes, i can only say its a
TOTAL LET DOWN

the colors look totally unnatural at times with too much of yellowish
advice not to go for this BD ,if u have the dvd its good enough
all i can say is there may be about 10-15:/: improvement in the overall PQ
It may be ok on a smaller display upto 40'' lcd/plasma

SQ-- dissapointment continues  theres no DOLBY TRUE HD as mentioned on the cover ,it simply is DD 5.1 ,theres no DTS which is there on the DVD version, again the dvd audio with dts is good enough so cant say that the audio in the BD is better, good thing is there is no extra brightness like the ones i came across in the bollywood BDs

I think its a big CON job by RVR/VOLGA to take us for a ride
the logo of these company is present through out the movie

all said i think its a dvd version released as Bluray , the movie on BD kind of looks like a cheaply done cartoon stuff, the dubbing of the dialogues is pathetic!!

Avoid this BD ,waste of 12$, the cover clearly mentions Dolby true HD  its a total mess up needs to be redone , even the logo which appears at the right bottom side is cut out

ITS the end of DESI Blurays for me

its going to be released soon here

this depends on your set up, if its going to be watched on an lcd/plasma upto 40'' it may be fine ,i wud say abt 10-15:/: better PQ than the dvd, beyond 40'' screen size its not a worthy buy

Hi

Has anybody seen INVICTUS a true story directed by Clint Eastwood about how Nelson Mandela joined forces with captain of South African rugby team to help unite their country, it is truly amazing and beautifully performed by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon and ofcourse ably directed by Clint Eastwood who at the age of around 80 seems to produce and direct classic movies year after year to name a few Million Dollar Baby, Changeling etc.
