Listening impressions to bhagwan's set up - part II [July, 2014]

Sir,

Yes!! The space problem i agree with - A TT setup, i feel is worth the efforts and pain you have to take to set it up.

But i know it is not simple. A Turntable needs its malik's affection\fondness and efforts. When this happens one can reach audio nirvana.

shafic

Sir,
Hello !
I respect your opinion & suggestion;
Maybe a TT is the way to go.
However, not for me.
I was never 'touched' by it - except once - several years ago in HK.
Cobra Continuum etc.
I do not think I am made out to be a TT person.
CD Player [I left 4 years back] + Computer + DAC etc. is what has taken my fancy & will work in that field to get better results.

Mr.Bhagwan, could you please reveal your musical interests and in which genres? If you are fond of the Great vintage Hindi film songs and Indian Classical music(Originally they have their inferior recording quality), then how far is it satisfying you by the computreised formats? Most of the people including myself beleive that the real analog sound can be heard from the source of phonographic records and reel to reel analog tapes. In Western classical and Jazz music, almost we could not hear any loss of the original analog record's quality as they have been improving by the modern recording facility and techniques. But the recording of Great Indian Music , Pathetically Unimproved. So, how could you listen the Indian music in computerised formats as you are satisfied? What do you feel? I apologise if I wrote any wrong.
Cheers.

Sir,
I personally have not used this.
However, I believe in it.
It is the right thing to do...
If I knew how to connect this P/S to my current PC's - I would surely go in for it.
Besides, even their case I like a lot, just not sure if my M/B & Sound Card will fit in it - else it is all very 'legit' on the price front.
If you know how to install & make it work, some help would be much appreciated.
I am 100 % game to get this done.:licklips:

HDPLEX H10 Series - HDPLEX INC

This case will work with a full height pci/pci-express card. So your sound card will work. However I think you'll need to buy a microATX board if you don't have one already. The installation of the cooler is a bit tricky as well. Wish I was in mumbai - I'd have gladly assembled it for you.

I'm ordering the linear psu in a day or two. Shall definitely report my feedback. Currently my fanless music pc runs on a laptop power brick. It has internal 19V DC to ATX conversion. Hoping to replace the power brick with the hdplex linear psu. A side benefit is that their power supply will be able to power my turntable as well with cleaner power. Currently it uses a 12V wall wart.

Their prices seem very legit and so far the communication I've had with the owner seems to be very genuine too.

RoC, I luurve the look of that HDPLEX stuff for a silent media PC. I have no idea to what extent the linear power supply merits its cost, but, even without that, this stuff is expensive

I'm sure that, if Bhagwan wakes up one day thinking, "Mmmm... turntables" he'll take on that path too. I don't see it as something to think about without either an existing collection of LPs or a real desire to explore that medium.

Sunder, you comment on Indian music compared to rest-of-world, in this respect, is interesting. Never heard that idea before.

Hey! ROC you PC seems very interesting. Can you please share the details or in case if you have already done it, please guide to the link.
TIA
Cheers

It is an asrock dual core atom board with 4GB ram, a corsair neutron ssd enclosed in an antec isk 110 running windows thin pc os. It runs completely passive with no fans whatsoever and is the cleanest pc sound i've heard so far. Also I use a dual head usb cable from ifi so no dirty USB power reaches my dac. The power end is disconnected.

I thought of getting something more powerful but for music listening, this is more than enough. I shall post some images later.

Would you recommend this be assembled since this and other cases in the ISK range are available here in India?

This is in reply to Mr. Sunder;

My Musical Preferences are :-

Western Classical - 40 %
Indian Classical - 20 %
Male Vocal - 15 %
Female Vocal - 15 %
New Age / Fusion - 5 %
Audiophile - Test Music - 5 %

Yes; Sourcing 'good quality' music recordings is an 'uphill task'
Quality of the Musical Performance is Inversely Proportional to the quality of the recording !

All said, getting treasured music & the correct pressing is tough & they are rare & much sought after.;)

1 good recording label I found is India Bazaar,Indian Grocery Store,Indian Super Market,Bazaar of India in Uk

Gurdecha Brothers | Darshan | CD Baby Music Store

Bhagwan, I didn't say that that that would happen: perhaps I should have made the If bigger! :)

I have an age-old relationship with vinyl, and would never get rid of my LPs or turntable, but my decision too, if you can call it a decision, is digital music. No going back. Even though I have the nostalgia for it --- and nobody is going to persuade me either.

Sir, thank you for the link.
Looking of your exemplary giant system deserves to be worshiped. Wish you all the very best to consume the fullest of that divine tonality which the system yields. I hope that you will be more comfortable during these rainy days by the warmness of tubes as well as the warmness of tube sound! Congratulations!
Cheers.

I do not concur.
I am not a TT person.

Just to clear up any possible misunderstanding.. I guess I was, originally, trying to say something like "Don't try to sell vinyl to a guy who's completely decided on digital," in a way that couldn't offend either analogue or digital camp.

I respect your position completely, but vinyl lovers can be sensitive.

Now we can move on...

Love the look of your new equipment. Just wonderful. Would be very happy to see, one day, and, more important, hear. Might be in Mumbai in about a year's time (June '15) and hope this can come true.

Thanks a lot for sharing. Would you say that it sounds better compared to a mac? esp mini?
what software are you using for playback?
For windows is the server version better for music playback?
TIA
Cheers

Never got to compare with a mac mini since I do not have one. If anyone can get one over, I'd be glad to share my findings. As for software, I use foobar with wasapi event style plugin.

From whatever I've read on the internet, apparently windows server is better for music. However I have no way to check as I do not have a windows server 2012 license. It is way too costly for an application such as this as well.

I had requested for 2 Velodyne SPL 800i
Sunny - Acoustic Arts [N.D.]was kind enough to send 1 [to get started] Just arrived & I have installed it.
Tuning & Setting it up - a whole new ball game.
Currently got it connected & started.
Plays some 'crazy' bass.
If you shut your eyes - you would never know what it is that was playing in the room.
I want to 'thank' Sunny for his help & support - it is truly Appreciated by me.
Now to get the sub to play & 'sync' with the TAD.....

Bhagwan, your Meitner DAC looks like it was made for the rest of your rack. It's finish blends perfectly with your amps as well as your audio PC. Like it was tailor made - I am assuming it sounds as sweet

Sir,
The MA-1 is currently being played via AES Cable from the RME Card.
It sounds better to my ears that way. The USB is not suiting my taste.
Do drop in when you are in town next - you may experience it for yourself.

Hi Bhagwan,

I really like your setup. Mine would look like a garbage bin next to yours. May I ask you about your room's floor plan. I can't help noticing that the speakers/setup are placed at the vertex of what looks like a triangular shaped room.

Thanx.

A beautiful, well-constructed speaker with class-leading soundstage, imaging and bass that is fast, deep, and precise.
