Could you post the Gemini Man same scene pic from both the TVs with same camera and lighting settings? We could do this for other TVs as well, and get some benchmark going of how the TVs look. That Gemini Man scene is great display of HDR and black levels.

The advantages of Sony OLEDs are 1) less reported cases of burn ins

Less reported cases may be due to the fact that LG outsells Sony by a huge margin, so can’t call that an advantage for Sony.Lg or any Oled tvs have the same level of disadvantage when it comes to the risk of burn-in.

It has been about 5 days with Sony 65A8H. Compared to LG 55C7 I noticed that Sony can't get as overall bright in both SDR and HDR. I had LG for almost 2.5 years so light output is something I missed immediately.

In almost all other picture parameters the LG and Sony are equal with Sony being superior for movies.
1 LG appears more colorful but Sony is more saturated in that it can do more shades of colours. Particularly noticeable are dark (night) scenes where Sony has more depth.

2. LG has higher light output but also less shadow detail as it has minor black crush. So it appears more contrast-y. Sony is balanced and, in fact, has more details in both bright and dark areas.

3. Being OLED both have "wow" factor but Sony has more depth and in many scenes. The latest Dora on Prime is a very good example. When Dora gets lost in field of flowers, the depth and colour that scene has is not matched by LG. Blade Runner 2049 has terrific cinematography and the casino hologram fight scene is a treat on the Sony with rich saturated colours.
Both scenes on Sony reminded me of watching in theatre.

4. Dolby Vision on LG is brighter but some scenes could be too bright for comfort. Sony is balanced but dark scenes are hard to watch in a well lit room.

5. Skin tones are better on Sony.

6. LG has little to no flashing in near black areas. Sony flashes (flickers, if you like) and can be irritating. Reducing gamma to -1 resolves to great extent.

I would say LG is absolute value for money and would work well even in decently lit room. Sony has a cinematic quality, has more detail and depth to pictures. Plus motion is great.

Buy either depending on your room conditions. Sony is recommended for cinema purists.

Similar experience as mine.
For PQ - LG for Dolby Vision, Sony for others especially movies.
User experience : LG

To me, LG feels like a luxurious tv. Sony feels like a luxurious picture.

May lean towards sony in the long run.

"OLED light" is the setting in LG and "Peak Luminance" is the setting in sony for setting/limiting max light output.

In short, you can set the LG to go as dim as Sony using the setting but not vice versa.

My sony oled has the same uniform screen as the first day after 3 years of more than regular use.

Then reduce the brightness in LG. Risk of burn in is same in all Oled tv’s period.No brand has advantage over burn in. Check out any international forums. LG outsells Sony by a huge margin and hence more cases of burn in. Even in our forum we have a huge number of LG Oled users and have 2 or 3 burn in cases reported recently.LG has also replaced panels for out of warranty tv’s. Which is better is another subject to discuss but when it comes to burn in risks, oleds are all the same. It’s just how you use it matters

Btw I am on the lookout for a new TV to replace my plasma (which is a LG and is doing great (fingers crossed) lets see which TV gets the recommendation from our pundits

Not a pundit but I recommend LG OLED if you have a decently lit room. If you have a consistently dark room then Sony OLED. This based on experience of having owned both.

Try Samsung 9 series QLED is good too.

^^ here in this forum, generally they recommend LG CX and to some extent some full array local dimming TV sets. They do not advocate edgelit sets. Toshiba and Hisense is voted up against TCL or Vu. A lot of the forumers are into gamming based TV choices and so HDMI 2.1 with eARC TV sets are preferred. If you can get a LG CX for their group buy discount then you would go home happy and smiling!

Planning for Oled? If so Learn the right settings for both Sony, LG Oled and demo using same videos. Get the one your eyes like. You will be 100% happy with both the Sony and LG PQ. In my purchase journey only difference i was able to spot in both is Sony had better motion and upscaling and LG is more bright and does DV better. If non-Oled Sony hands down beats LG. Factors to consider is size, room and most importantly what contents you will be watching. So if you can state your budget, size preference and usage pattern our fm’s can guide you better.

Ive finalised my pick as the Sony OLED. But
I'm torn between the 55 and the 65 .
My room is large enough to take a 65. But the price jump is prohibitively expensive.
Is the jump worth it or should I stick with the 65?

yes stick with the 65! If you had intended 55" then go for 65" for a lakh more. Because bigger is better. And with some bargaining you will get it for less. You will always have an itch if you go for undersized choice. That's why. As plain as that.

It is weird how they are able to get more colour output in an emissive technology with LG having 256*256*256 or 16 million colour info in their diodes - what does the X1 processor do to get these additional colour display? Have a layer transmitting from the back like their triluminous technology? Then it is transmissive technology not emissive. I somehow think Sony's getting things artificial wrt oled technology (that being said by a Sony fanboy).

Why do you think Sony has more colour output? Is it cause of that video? If so please go to a show room and do a side by side comparison. Any one can make a video using camera and project lg colours to be dull vs some other tv. Every showrooms have the oleds installed side by side. No body buys a c9 or cx without doing intensive research and doing side by side comparisons. I am a very biased Sony fan boy as well. Check out the below threads. In one thread the image in my 5 year old led Sony tv in 1080p beats the 4kHDR c9 image. And in the other thread you will see how I went for the c9 even though I finalised on the A8 and never even considered LG.

Sony 8G vs LG C9

I am a Sony fan boy and my current and past Tv’s are both Sony. When I go to show room I don’t even audition other brands and only look at Sony Tv’s. But I have noticed most Fm’s have gone for the LG C9 over the Sony. Croma gave a quote of 1.7L for the Sony 8G and 1.3L for the C9. Checked side...

The sony55 retails at around 158 and the 65 shoots to 232 .The jump seems to be a whopping 70k for the size upgrade alone. Torn in my head for the steep hill.
