Planning for Two Subwoofers, budget 50K Max - Suggestions please..

Hi,
Do try the Sonodyne Roarr 210 also. I bought my 2 subs for 42K so it's quite within your budget and the build quality is solid.

Thanks.. Sure.. Will also consider this... On the list..

I have two of my friends who use Sonodyne Roarr 210 Subs..They have only one sub.. But it is good for the price they paid..

My brother too has Sonodyne Studio monitor range sub SLF210i which is much better than the 210..

Anyways both models of Sonodyne have Freq Resp from 40Hz.. But,Taga Harmony Platinum starts from 30Hz atleast from pics..May be something more to offer...

Conceptually, two subs should be better but then you are looking at ideally more expensive subs. Most conventional subs add boom but lack of musicality. Unfortunately, the musical subs are more expensive unless you are getting a second hand one.

Check out BIC/Rel

Didn't get you..Do you mean to say that two expensive subs will do a better job than two budget ones ?

Never had a demo of x.2 setup for movies/music..This would be mostly for movies.. If it can do any better for music, that would be it..

Check out BIC/Rel

Thanks for the suggestion..BIC just heard that this model is 40K + in India.. So def out of reach.. Rel is completely out of picture...

Missed this in the earlier reply to your post..

Hope you using both the subs for movies... If so, could you please share your experience...

Also please help with more details on your room dimension, your placement of subs, AVR that you are using and EQ feature that you have used..

If you are looking for dual subs with a budget of 50K, I would definitely suggest you to increase the budget of 10k and go with velodyne impact subs.

Taga is priced really well, if you want to stick below that 50k then you can go with tagas. Two same subs you are in for a treat everyday you launch your system whether it is for movies or music. Try velodyne impact 12s its worth a lot.

I had single sub setup for the past 5 years. Few months ago I configured dual subs , I just felt how much I have missed for those long years. So dual subs are great choice.

Below are the changes I got when I moved to dual subs,
1. Balanced sound
2. Sound becomes more transparent
3. You will get to feel some unusual thrill low frequency notes that you have never heard in the movie tracks.
4. Most important one is very low distortion.

Placement of subs and configuration will be very easy when compared to single/2 different sub.

No, I meant budget subs wont make much of a difference whether you add 2 or 4.

Then its simpler as movies demand much lesser. You could go for the usual suspects - Deftech/SVS/Velodyne. Generally prefer companies who specialise in subs rather than speaker companies making subs.

Really hard pressed as i jut got Klipsch Fronts & center a month back... Now looking for sub & probably new AVR too due next month..

Yes. Very well.. This sub retails for approx 360 Pounds in UK and abt 400 Euros and 29K In India.. You can never see that happen with any other brand..

Try velodyne impact 12s its worth a lot.

How much do they cost?

Hmm.. It is actually the other way around from general reading..

I just plan to add 2 subs and let the EQ feature in the AVR do its merit..

Right..Get your point.. Not too keen on the specialized brands because of my budget..

I think it still holds good.. With Digital room correction, it should only get better.. Or it should be even better with sub EQ feature...

Think you already have Samson Media one sub in place.. Best would be to get an other sub of the same brand... Don't know how much is the cost? You get the benefit of 2 subs with minimum budget.. If it is good, then you can sell both and plan an upgrade later with better performing subs...

Yes.. There are some terms difficult to comprehend.. Never mind.. If it is two subs, best placement is in the front corners or mid wall placement..

Even audioholics have tested 2 subs in living room than their dedicated HT Room, which is good as most of us would be using it in Living room..

Yes.. Looking forward to it..
Nope I don't have a Samson sub, I just mentioned the decent cheaper subs available. I have a Jamo 360, which has aged gracefully now & needs a replacement.

Which leads us to the basic question,

Is buying two of Boston acoustics sw250 or Polk SW125 or Wharfedale Subs costing around 50k is better than buying a single SVS SW pb 1000 around 45k?

Some clarity in this regard is required from other forum members.
Velodyne impact 12 isn't available, two of them or 2x Bic F12 will be way out of budget.

Sorry.. I thought you had Samson sub since you mentioned it..

Multiple subwoofers: If one's good, two are even better - Cnet.com

And yes, two decent 10-inch subs, properly placed can deliver higher quality bass than one 12-inch sub. Two $600 subs can sound better than one $1200 sub. - From Cnet.com

If 50k is the budget and you know any good carpenter in your locality, you might go for DIY subs.
Drivers and electronics are available in Diyaudiocart/eBay.

All I can say that - if properly built, it can even compete with a branded sub twice of its cost.

Thanks saikat.. Am not a DIY guy when it comes to speakers as am novice.. Wouldn't take the risk of betting 50K on my Carpenter even-though the material procured may be really worth it..

Don't bother with DIY for powered subwoofer, they somehow don't sound half as good.

So what's your plan now, which two cheaper Subs you're looking at?

I heard a Klipsch 10" @35k & Heco prime victa 252a at 30k locally, Sounded quite premium & without any kind of distortion : though specs don't compare to SVS pb 1000 on paper but, you should hear it to believe it.
Polk SW125, Boston AS250 and
Two more Subs added to the list albeit at a higher cost, let's see.

Any experiences on Sunfire Subs? They are supposed to be small yet powerful, may have to buy one for now and plan another later considering the cost.

It cost around 34k, if we can bargain we get it at good price. We can try volumate. I actually bought from him. If you want we can discuss with him and plan for a demo as well.

Thanks for sharing your experience.. Are your subs the same

No, my subs are different. one is craftel 12" and 2nd is velo 12"

The velodyne impact 12 costs 34k mrp, you should get it for around 30k after discount(I got mind from htstore). The sunfire sds12 is a really good one, I've heard them in another ht setup, don't remember specs on paper but I remember they went deep at lower freq in terms of real world performance. They're overpriced in India though - around 45-50k(almost half the price abroad). If you can get the SDS12 from your grey market contacts at the same cost of velodyne impact 12, go for it.

Hi,
I'm planning for dual subs as well. I contacted Volumate last week for buying single velodyne impact 12 sub. But they suggested to go for dual sonodyne roarr 210 sub for my budget (45k). Now, I'm in a state of confusion whether to go for dual velodyne impact 10 or roarr 210. 10 inch dual because I think 10 inch will be more punchy than the 12's. I'm very new to HT. Can experienced people throw some suggestions?

Taga Harmony - The sheer gross weight alone of the product is pulling me to me it than any other sub @ Approx 25 Kgs... May be that is an indicator of quality build? Not sure..

The rest of the sub are not even 20 Kgs..

Heco Victa Prime

This sub looks very handsome with dual bass rear ports..

I heard a Klipsch 10" @35k & Heco prime victa 252a at 30k locally, Sounded quite premium & without any kind of distortion : though specs don't compare to SVS pb 1000 on paper but, you should hear it to believe it

I will skip the Klipsch, must be a very basic one if its price is 35K.. Recently got the Klipsch fronts abroad and i can fairly make a guess what the Klipsch 10 inch actual cost would be..

Polk SW125

I think Polk SW series are entry level ones.. DSW are mid range series i guess..

Boston AS250 and Two more Subs added to the list albeit at a higher cost, let's see.

I just happened to check the specs of ASW250 and ASW650, bot do the same freq resp 28Hz 150Hz, +-3dB and weigh almost similar.. Think only the power is different..

Any experiences on Sunfire Subs? They are supposed to be small yet powerful, may have to buy one for now and plan another later considering the cost.

Oops..Sorry.. No budget..

Did you audition 2 subs of Sonodyne Roarr 210 in volumate?

For excellent sound that won't break the bank, the 5 Star Award Winning Wharfedale Diamond 12.1 Bookshelf Speakers is the one to consider!
