Hi,

I have premier acoustics 120 subwoofer as part of my set up. While the woofer is good in terms of its performance unlike REL or some other subwoofer mine is not standing on a spike and it is directly place on the floor.

Most of the times, the effect of subwoofer rattles my door and shelves while watching movies. Is there any acoustic pad I can use to prevent this from happening as it spoils the whole fun:sad:

This is the one

Thanks

wow

do you think the doors rattle because the vibrations from the sub are transferred from the floor to the door!??

sir
your doors rattle because of the low frequencies of the bass (the resonant frequency of the door probably matches some notes)

even if you suspend the sub with a rope from your ceiling this is still going to happen.

you are probably getting a lot of bass extension from the sub - the notes are not quick enough.
if you like the bass extension - you can do nothing.
if you dont - roll an old sock into a ball and put in the sub port- see the difference
if your sub has gain control - tone it down a bit. if it has crossover control ,cross it over at 80hz ( provided your regular speakers arent sats)

isolating the sub with spikes would be better than coupling it

what should help the most is re positioning the sub in a different corner of the room

second magma. the vibrations are more caused from the frequencies and loudness of the sound of the sub. if repositioning doesnt work then secure your doors and windows better. atleast a wt against them while turning up the sub

why not crank it hard and blow em off.. was kiddin..

the rattling is due to the low frequencies from the sub.. isolating it frm the ground won't solve the prob... secure the doors and windows.. the sub is doing what it's supposed to do..

Actually my question was a serious one. Any easy ideas to close the gaps between doors and windows ? Dont recomend getting new doors and windows, thats out of the question. :)

Subwoofer sounds ok for you, worried abt rattling windows and doors go for some acoustic panels at specific places and raise ur woofer above the ground and clear of obstruction on sides . you can visit colour vibration site ,its in bangalore you get some idea abt acoustics

I think it would mostly be the glass panels that would be rattling. Use silicon to fill the gaps. I got some for myself for my new house, but not yet implemented.

I am almost sure it is not because of resonance. I have my own reasons, because the door is on a different corner compared to subwoofer.

Moreover the door in question is really strong door and its entrance of my apartment.

If an MDF TV Cabinet is not disturbed by resonance, its hard for me to believe strong door will be.

The only reason I can think of is that rear port of subwoofer is close to floor and somehow sound waves are getting onto the floor.

Am I missing something here.

Thanks

@kittu, if you won't be opening the windows for a while, BluTack is highly recommended.

I had rattling issues with a couple of cupboard doors near my speakers. A bit of Blutack solved it for me. I rarely need to open those cupboard doors, so I didn't mind sealing them that way.

I too have a similar problem, I use my system in the living room. My dining table rattles during some scenes in the movies.
I wonder how that can happen, subwoofer is almost 14 feet from the dining table.

BTW, I kept my subwoofer on a wooden stool at 1ft height from ground.

Thanks,
Murali.

I some how think the darn vitrified tiles and hallow block constructions are no good for sound absorbing.
