Tata Sky launches Tata Sky+ HD at just Rs. 3999/

Re: Tata Sky HD+ Hdmi Audio Problem!

7.1 will need programs created in 7.1 to be aired in 7.1 , It'll take twenty years for that to happen considering we are listening to mono NatGeo from 5 channels :).

However, I hope the showcase HD movies can do 7.1 or atleast a high quality 5.1 (Dolby truehd) (Hope lies eternal....)

Placed my order today and they agreed to install within 48 hours. One hour later received a call from customer care saying that stocks are not available in bangalore.

Has to wait for another 2 days.

Same happened to me - I booked on Thursday and was promised by Saturday. Friday they called me saying boxes are not available, will take an additional 1-2 days.
Anyway, got a call yesterday evening, guy should be there at my place at 4 today to do the installation. :)

Have all of you got the Grand Package free for a month and HD Gold Pack free for 2 months? There have been conflicting reports of what is available to the subscribers (new and existing) who opt for TS+ (HD).

I purchased a new TS + HD connection and was offered Grand Pack for 1 month & 2 Months HD Gold pack free.

The CC execs are not aware of this offer, you need to speak to supervisor who in turn will confirm with Sales team and activate the same for you.

Regards

What happens if we take a connection with 1 year advance payment package??

Actually you are hoping for more than the technology permits. 'Dolby Digital Plus (DD+)' is not the same as 'Dolby TrueHD'. The bandwith required for 'Dolby TrueHD' is way too high for DTH.

Well, get this.. I'd opted for the megapack and got it at a discounted rate of Rs 9,300 for the box + 1 yr megapack subscription. When I called them this evening to find out if I'll still get the 1st month Grand package free, they said it's an either/or, and since I took the mega pack at a discounted rate, I'm not eligible for the other offer.

Is this available through Retailers or we have to book online or through call centre only?
Unusual query but I want to get it clarified from members. Can I book using my new Credit card?
can we use it with old CRTs with selecting low resolution? I have LG 23" HD ready TV monitor with 1080 native resolution in Bedroom and 21" CRT in living room.
thanks.

only hdmi is included; rest all needs to be purchased...

Just got Tata Sky+ HD DVR up and running - stunning picture quality and recording also on immediately... HDMI, 5.1 dolby digital all working...

Notes - It took a while to get it to start downloading first time; Use splitter only and then only power up the box for faster download; also for 2nd room, the card has to be swiped to make this the primary box...
Had to call CC to get the HD Package running; got 2 month's subscription of HD Pack free; no other offer on installing as extra room package...

Re: Tata Sky HD+ Hdmi Audio Problem!

In another thread in this forum one user of TS+ HD has commented that the DD 5.1 audio is available only thru the optical i/f and not HDMI.. and yet another user has added that in TS+ HD STB, the HDMI (for some strange reason) does only PCM2.0 Audio and that the DD 5.1 is outputted only on optical & coax.

I would like to confirm if this is true.. somehow I find it hard to believe.. don't have a TS+ HD box hence can't verify...

HDMI is the interface which supports highest data rate and optical/co-ax have a bit rate limitation which will make DD THD or DTS-MA etc "lossless" formats impossible to be transmitted...
just wanted to know if others who've installed the box have the same observation....

So it is indeed true the TS+ HD support DD5.1 audio on co-ax and NOT HDMI? Strange... seems very silly that TS chose not to use HDMI to output 5.1 DD audio....

Anyone on this forum has used the HDMI cable in the TS+ HD STB .. pl share some observations...

BTW I have a TS HD box and on that one, the HDMI outputs DD5.1 (along with 1080i Video) for channels like Discovery HD and NG HD.. so it seemed a bit strange that TS+ HD give DD5.1 only on coax and not HDMI....

I also have Tata Sky HD and now Tata Sky+ HD. It is indeed correct that that HD box gives 5.1 through HDMI and HD+ does not.

I am also in Gurgaon, come to my place and believe. :)

HI sanjay0864... about the HDMI goof up on TS+ HD STB design (completely agree w/ur views)... is it possible that the TS+ HD is outputting multichannel (6) PCM on HDMI and it is outputting DD5.1 encoded streams on the co-ax/optical leaving the AVR to decode and process the sound in the AVR?

In other words the TS+ HD box is decoding the 5.1 DD audio streams from the two "HD channels" and converting to (6?) PCM streams and sending it over HDMI???

I hope they fix the HDMI bug in TS+HD soon..
Just ordered for the same.

BTW, Can someone confirm, if the HDMI Stream is Indeed PCM 2.0 and NOT PCM 5.1 ?

I ask this because, PS3 has a similar "feature", where if your AVR supports PCM 5.1, it then prefers to decode and stream in PCM 5.1, rather than letting the AVR do the decoding. This is true while playing back HD Rips Stored on PS3 HDD ( Or Games). For Blu Rays and DVD's there is an option in PS3 to "Bitstream" ( So the DD or DTS on your AVR Lights up).

On Onkyo Units : If you hit "Display" button on AVR and scroll up and down you should see something like "PCM 5.1" and "FS 48"/"FS 96" etc. If you see "PCM 2.0" then we will have to wait for Tata Sky guys to fix it.

Is it technically possible? Most certainly yes. Do I think the 'TataSky + HD' set-top box has a built in Dolby Digital decoder and PCM encoder, most certainly NOT. In any case, it would make absolutely no sense to decode the 'Dolby Digital' bitstream in the cheapo set-top box instead of an AVR or other stand alone Dolby Digital decoder. In short I am quite sure that thisis not the case.

I ask this because, PS3 has a similar "feature", where if your AVR supports PCM 5.1, it then prefers to decode and stream in PCM 5.1, rather than letting the AVR do the decoding.
The only reason the PS3 and other Blu-ray players providethis option, is for the benefit of those who do not have AVRs that can decode the newer HD audio formats. This feature was never intended for the standard DD 5.1 audio encodings.

Anyone has any idea how do we see Signal Strength etc. in this Tata Sky+HD PVR, as I can enter system settings but dont see any such option...
