Three DACs free build from me

@kaushik - gurubhai and audiodelic and I are confirmed for the group buy and they are waiting to know how much money to transfer to my account so that the order can be placed . i should be ordering the kits day-after tomorrow/tomorrow. also two rolls of silver solder that you need.

@ tally3tally - i am waiting for your go ahead - you have asked me to wait for the go-ahead. So please.....

i have updated the prices
the Mouser BOM is final
you can go ahead with ordering the parts from AMB and Mouser
there are some parts which are not in stock and so are on backorder
be careful when you order, as these will ship separately and separate shipping applies
best solution is if you know someone in US who would get the delivery and get the stuff along.

Personally i dont think group buy is such a bright idea
If you order separately the package will not attract duties as it will be of value less than 10k.
Furthermore, the parts will come as individual packages and it will be easier to build individual sets that ways.

By tonight i will also finalise the Farnell BOM
but the main issue remains
the Heart(DAC) is still only available on Mouser.
and will have to be separately ordered, if the order is placed with farnell.

on the other hand, i can place one order every second day, so that i receive three individual packs.

@tally3tally - the next person due in from USA for me would be in march 2010 and that is too much time to keep a project pending.

why not place the order with AMB and Mouser and forget about farnell?

dont keep mouser in the loop ..their shipping is high
i have exchanged email with digikey..
i will check the availability and surely all four kit extra parts can be shipped in envelope...cutting cost to 12$ total or so .

Let me work a formula to have only AMB and digikey.Then we may save for sure.

the view that the shippin of mouser is high was shared by me too but as things have shown ,after both mouser and farnell BOMs were populated
that farnell works out to somewhere around 7500bucks which does not incl the dac
mouser with just the availble parts (not considering the backordered ones some whose avail extends to mar/apr2010) works out to $130 incl shipping
so now i am of the view that mouser is better
lets research a little bit more n see what works out

can you send a full xls .. with one column ( source , values mouser/farnell etc..)

On mouser BOM some items can be avoided and locally sourced.
(not related to audio performance)
Let me know shall we go with locally sourced alternatives .

what i need to know is-

exactly what i need to use the credit card to purchase, and since i am a little challenged in that department, it has to be exact, otherwise i might miss a resistor, capacitor or even the DAC!

for the local purchase - i will send the money to kaushik (ICICI, HDFC, or IDBI banks preferable)
 
I think it would be better if only one person makes the purchase. Especially since each kit requires component from different sources, it would be frugal for each person to try & buy component from different sources & then putting them together.
@kaushik : has the parts lists & their sources been finalized ?

Also, are we going with full Y1 configuration( USB, Optical & Coaxial ) on all the kits ?

local parts ok no prob ,i will give how you can transfer money to me...
 
Sorry for late reply ,

I have checked with digikey , but the some resistor etc cant be had as 1 pc ,
could not get alternate source for DAC chip too ...

Then i checked with resistor kit(contains all values ) Vishay Dale etc kits are not stocked .
Others 29$ ,
Ebay has some resistor kits with brand called 'uniOhm'.. 10$ free shipping
or so (will serve for this and even more kit builds)
we should not try these as audio quality may vary .

So we should better go by the tally3tally's plan ...

Decide on the purchase plan and let us know.

also go for the better DAC chip. WM8741

Remember , the kits are getting most respected capacitors ,components
a little investment is not bad.
 
lets go with the best quality parts.
No point in saving some bucks & always wondering what it could have been like if we had used the best parts.
