Thanks. But this seems to be from US. I was looking for british suspense/mystery series.
Homeland (Season 1) finished airing recently. Found it to be among the more mature espionage thrillers in recent times, with more human aspects than the usual gun-play and car chases. Though the finale was not much of a 'closer'; more like a end of season 1/beginning of season 2. The classic jazz-influenced sound track is a nice touch.

HOMELAND is quite gripping i am on episode ten..sad will have to wait for season 2. I read somewhere President Obama watches Homeland and he hasnt missed a show!

Last two are made into movies but TV series of those two are way better and preferable.
I started re-watching the LOST S1 on Bluray. Its as interesting as first time. The greatest TV show ever.

Its awesome... Mix of Politics, American Intelligence.... Story is good and the events unfold in an organised manner.... Still You Don't Know Who s correct and Who's the Mole..!! .. Season 1 s over... Waiting for Season 2 start... Dates not yet announced...
AND Since I came across this thread I would like to share my favourites in order of "My Favourite and Those which keeps me Gripped to my TV when I watch them"
1. Prison Break (Completed)
2. House (S-8, 8Eps over,,, will resume in another 2 weeks)

I am surprised nobody has mentioned The Sopranos till now!
I was a skeptic at first but I got a chance to see the whole series and now I am convert. It is probably the best on screen treatment of the Italian mob life I have ever seen. I am not kidding. The writing, dialogues, acting and music is absolutely fantastic. Don't see it with kids in the room though.
Next favorites:

Dexter
and sitcoms:
Seinfeld, Arrested Development (probably the smartest TV show ever made too bad it got axed), Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Office(US), Frasier, Family Guy, Big Bang Theory, Modern Family, Simpsons, Friends (quite excruciating in the end but some of it was good).

So its time for an update of my ratings... Watched lot of TV shows. Watched few of them again. Lets see if i have change of heart for some.
I havent included all the shows i have.
9/10:
F.R.I.E.N.D.S - Still my all time favourite.
Arrrested Development - One of THE brilliant show for the last 10 or 15 years.
Sherlock - Yes. It is THAT good.
8.5/10:
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia - It IS seinfeld is steroids.

Have to agree with you on Arrested Development! But for me Sopranos is still at least 9/10 if not a 10. You have to see The Wire (maybe a bit boring for you) and Dexter.

Inspector Morse (John Thaw) has been a classic series set in and around Oxford for those elitists murders.
There were so many other sleuths and detective TV - the Brits simply love them; I remember watching 'Midsomer Murders' and the more witty 'Hetty Wainthrop Investigagtes' while I was there.

Two new promising serials in the thriller category just started airing: Alcatraz and Touch (with Kiefer Sutherland).
Touch has a challenging premise of dramatic coincidences that connect lives across the world, but the first episode seemed to stretch credibility. Still worth a watch for novelty alone IMO.
